Protection under engine

Hi guys,
my "new" Z4 E86 hasn't the cover protection under engine ... I don't know the name or the code of this part (maybe 51717012723?)

Here a picture that explain the problem I refer to

Looks like a ///M bumper has been fitted and an aftermarket skirt.

The original tray isn't compatible with an ///M bumper so was either removed or it fell off due to the wind trap it becomes.
 
Yes, it has the M front bumper but oem skirts.
In my ex Z4 roadster with M bumper too, the original tray was mounted without any problems and I didn't change it when I mounted the bumper.
Are you sure that the original trim doesn't fit in this case?
 
It's definitely the mentioned part that's missing.

Which one you try to fit is up to you, but I'd not recommend going too far/fast without it as it does a couple of functions...1) helps high speed aero/stability by stopping too much turbulence caused by airflow hitting all those exposed mechanical parts; 2) it protects the mechanical bits from minor road debris.

I meant the skirt on the front bumper. From what I'd read the original cover left a gap when fitting a ///M bumper and some owners had the undertray ripped off due to air getting in there at speed.

Sorry mate, I misunderstood!
Do you think that the skirt under the bumper isn't OEM?

Can I resolve the problem buying an original cover for the M?
 
^^^^ take this if it's the M one as a new one will be £££££s
 
The standard undertray does fit with an ///M front bumper, but you'll be left with a gap. I know this as when I bought my car, it had this exact set-up.

Some members have fabricated a plastic cover to bridge the gap between bumper and undertray. Quite easy to do. I simply removed my undertray completely. Hasn't caused me any problems in the 5 years it's been off the car, apart from a bit of dirty water splashing up into the engine bay.

same, the sump is protected by a metal guard anyway so i dont see how it makes any difference. the ARB protects anything fwd of the sump too.
 
It was out there primarily for aero reasons and fuel economy. You wouldn't notice it at all in normal driving but are paying every time you drive the car..

That argument would work if we were talking about a Prius and not an old vehicle with a 3.0 engine.
 
The argument holds good on a 155 mph car
Old engine or not it still improves mpg by being fitted
Do most folks care - probably not or wouldn't drive a 3ltr car
