:( will be having to get a four door soon, as i will be having to run mum and dad about , (they are 92 and 93, so they haven't done bad getting about with out our help so far) But so i can still have a car that can shift abit when it's just me and hwmbo, i have been looking at a Bmw 3 series 328i .. for our dd.
My question is , what's the general consensus on this car, as i know nothing about other bmw's, and with only £20,000 to spend plus the one i like has alot of toys and is an auto.... cheers davecci. (Dave) hope this is ok here, as it is a "Problem ".. :sos:

Why don't you keep hold of the zed if you like it & get a throw away Nissan micra to run your folks about in?
Job done

One thing to consider is how easy they'll find it to get into and out of the car - some elderly people find it easier to 'step up' to get into a car like an X3 or X5 than to lower themselves into a sporty car and have to lift themselves upright as they get out

We had a similar problem.
So we kept the z and sold the wife's celica
And got a 5 door polo .job done.

Nissan x-trail, cheap, reliable, oap friendly. And did I mention cheap so you can pick up a decent used model for peanuts and keep the Z

I had a similar problem when I bought my first Z4C 2 years ago as my mother was 92 and couldn't really get into or out of it!

So I splashed out nearly £700 on a Mazda 323f - as it was only 1500cc cheap RFL and a non-interference engine so no need to change the cam-belt until it snapped!

Seemed like a good idea at the time, but in a few months I was so bored using it I bought a 325ti Compact instead! Much more fun, and seeing as I have a 30 mile trip each way whenever I visit and rarely do more than 5 miles running her about it fits the bill much better!

Why not keep the Z4 and buy something like an E46 328i for parental duties? At least that way you can still have some fun you aren't on parental duties!

Thanks guys,
For the suggestions and comments etc, will have to think again about what to decide.. decisions , decisions. :?
Dave.

I can't quite see how there is even a problem...
 yeah with 20k you could actually buy all the cars we have suggested and still have enough left to buy a Z although a big enough garage may take you over budget

I think you need a small but tall car, I have just bought a Nissaan Note for my DAD at 89 and over 6ft he needs something that is easy to get in and out of , and I fit in the back too at 6ft 4 :) Three years old ex mobility and only 7K miles for £8000 8)

"Only £20k" I guess we all have differing levels of poverty. I don't think my cars are worth £20k put together. ;)

Anyhow I jest.

Nissan Qashqai. My mate's father gets a car for care under mobility access or similar and they always give the family one of these.

Easy access in and out, enough space for walking aides and comortable ride and spacious inside.

Also fairly cheap. It's not as prestige as a 3 series, but if practicality for your folks is paramount, you won't go far wrong.
