I just received an email from my employer that starts, "Dear [Bing], we are very pleased to confirm that your application for voluntary redundancy has been approved. Your last day of service will be 31st March 2013..."

So after 17 years, 6 months and 13 days I will be leaving the only company I have ever worked for... And no, I don't have a job to go to. Yet. Have to say I am terrified and delighted in equal measure :cry: :D :headbang: :roll: :o :rofl:

Guessing its what you wanted ? being self employed for 26 years redundancy is a word i can only dream of :P

If your skills allow then go self employed.

My 1 regret of my career is that I waited too long to do it. Always more comfortable with company cars, paid holidays, pension, private medical etc, etc. Big mistake.

You'll make far more money working for yourself than making someone else money for a salary.

Life reboot - Phase 2+ of The Plan, which currently has a target objective of ending up emigrating to Malaysia in 10 to 15 years time. And it's time for a change. Figured it was time I stopped talking about something I was doing nothing about and grew some. Technically it is a 'Paid Leaver Scheme' so there is some decent money involved, which will sow some seeds. The ///M is not top of the list right now, but if I play it right then it's on the cards at some point for sure. All I need to do now is find another job :D

My skills are not really self-employment biased as I'm in sales, but there are jobs out there paying more than I am on now, in companies I want to work for that do stuff which interests me. Already made contact with a few people I know, so fingers crossed. Hoping to wangle things so I can have April off by choice rather than because I need to be going to interviews :P
 
Congratulations! I did something similar in my late 20s that put a years money in my pocket, allowed me to do what I wanted to do and I can trace all the steps from then to now career wise so it was well worth it.

Yeah - I have had actual conversations with my boss, my VP and HR, but it's all applied for and approved through online HR systems. Technically I submitted my resignation pending acceptance on the 10th February. Before I told my boss. Who got an automated email from the system letting her know. Oops :oops:

Yup, that's about the size of it. It's so easy to just put up with things because it seems the risks are too high and life is comfortable-ish - so why change ? But. You can end up spending your life moaning - I have done my share - and that's just wrong. Life begins at 40 apparently - I'll let you know if that's true in May :D

Scary ain't it :cry: I am retiring in 3 weeks after 41 years with the company always wonder if you've done the right thing, but I'm sure we have :thumbsup: just a different more exciting part of our live's
