Programmable Buttons

Does anyone know how to clear the 8 programmable buttons?
I've tried all the various options I could find with a Google search but nothing has worked yet.
I assume there must be a way of doing it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

What are these programmable buttons you speak of?
Rob

Buttons 1 - 8 underneath the cd/dvd slot.
I'm not sure if they might only be available with iDrive.
Anyway, you can use them for shortcuts to certain functions.
For example, button 1 might be navigate home, button 2, call the wife etc.
I would just like to clear a couple of them and can't find out how!

According to my owner manual for the f25 x3 you hold buttons 1 and 8 at the same time for about 5 seconds. Not sure of the e89 is the same?

Thanks for your reply.
I think the E89 must use a different system.
I tried holding 1 and 8 for ages and nothing happened. :|
The E89 manual only refers to programming them with no mention of resetting.
Perhaps it can't be done.

Do you use the selector to highlight a function in the display assignment screen, once it is selected on screen, hold 1&8 for five seconds?

If they cant be reset, can you just re assign each one?

Rather than trying to reset all the buttons, can't you just over-ride / over-write the function on an individual button? i.e. choose a new function in the iDrive then hold the desired button for >2 secs?

I reset all of mine to radio stations as the previous owner had left all of his home address, work address, partners address etc etc all programmed in!

have you tried this?

From the Menu - Press i
Select "Settings" - press controller
Select "Vehicle/Tires" - press controller
Select "Programmable Memory Keys" - press controller
Select "Delete assignment..." - press controller
Select "Yes" - press controller

Thanks for all your replies.
Answering each in turn......
I'm not sure what you mean by 'Display Assignment Screen' but holding 1 & 8 for more than 5 seconds does nothing.
I could reassign the buttons but I currently have a couple which say 'unassigned' and would like to set a couple of the others back to this state.
I don't yet have Carly or any other programming tool but it's looking like this could be the only way forward. Is anyone with access to programming tools able to confirm this?
And finally, unfortunately the 'Vehicle/Tires' option and the other subsequent options don't appear in my iDrive system.

Hi Rob

Buttons are a Idrive/nav feature

Cheers
Charlie

And, if you've forgot what you have programmed to a button just touch the button without pressing it and the function is displayed at the top of the iDrive screen.

Just summat I've noticed recently :)

For those of you that didn't realise what this can do, you can assign any idrive function that you selecet to your 'radio buttons', simply navigate to the required menu within idrive and hold down the button.

for example I assigned 'close screen' to one button as there is no quick way to close it on the dashboard :)

Or press the steering wheel voice button and say close display :D

I expect that would actually fire an airbag and call my mum, the voice recognition isn't the greatest :P
