Professional Loudspeaker Audio - Equalizer settings

Hi Guys and Girls.

So I have recently taken delivery of my new Zed and it has the 16 speaker 650W loudspeaker professional sound system.

I was playing around with the settings over the weekend. I have the Dolby Pro Logic II turned on but not sure what the best settings for all the frequencies in the equalizer are. I have googled it and found many different answers. Is it dependant on the acousics of the car or is there a generic setting for optimum performance?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi JDM,

The car is looking gorgeous mate!

I'm currently using these settings - not ideal but better than stock and will have to do until the audiophiles among us post something up

REALLY? You kept that quiet!!!!

Seriously though, this is a good question. I have the pro sound also and was expecting to find pre-sets (i.e. concert, rock etc), so that frequency page just threw me!

Also, a few days after having it, I was blasting the music (despite meaning to tkae the volume easy for a while) and definately got distortion from the front left. Hasn't happened since, so hope no damage done.

Hey JDM

First point to note - While I don’t think it is really worth £855, it is a massive improvement over standard and lays down a healthy base for any upgrades I might want to make down the line. So it is quite good and I am glad I ordered it, but it is not mind blowing.

Anyway, to try answer your question.... The first night I got mine I was desperately looking through all the online posts etc. I was really disappointed with it. I tried some of the settings, including the one rystar00 noted, but was still not happy. So I kept toying with it and came up with my own levels.

Then, over the next week or two, it slowly changed, and I found myself constantly adjusting the levels. At the moment I run it pretty flat, but adjust it slightly depending on the music I am listening to at the time (pretty broad musical taste!).

With regard to the surround option, that’s another I keep turning on and off. I think it works pretty well for instrument based music (dubstep, dance etc), but anything concentrated around vocals, I immediately switch it off as they get lost.

So that’s a rather long way of saying I don’t have a solution, BUT just hang on for a week or so before you get too obsessed (as I did) as you will find it change significantly as the speakers bed in.

Thanks for all the responses people although I suppose its not definitive. I will just have to keep playing around with the settings.

I am impressed with the sound. The vocals are crisp and clear and the bass nice and punchy. Not too boomy as I have heard in many other cars.

Cant say I have noticed any distortion though :? Ive had it quite loud but not stupidly loud? Distortion on a £855 option isnt acceptable, if mine starts it will be going straight back!!

We did have the roof down, doing 60 (ish :D ) and the volume turned up quite a bit playing Aerosmith (no comments please, its better than Keith's Proclaimers tunez!!!).

So what does the "surround" do? Does it turn on/off the centre dash speaker?

I got in the car at work and put the radio on. Moved the balance/fade so that one corner at a time was on, and noticed with the surround on, it went a bit fuzzy.

Also noticed that when moving the speakers to the front of the car, the volume was much louder than just the rears? I guess this could be that the radio is in stereo and only really the fronts?

How do you turn the dsp on/off?

I'd like to know too, I also have the Professional option. Currently have the surround off and the equalizer pretty flat, just the 80Hz and 12kHz a bit up. Have to play with it more, but usually I'm enjoying the engine sound more lol :)
