Hi everyone, this is probably a silly question, Iv git a 2014 28I on 3000 mile's, all is pretty good but Iv just been on a 200m + run ( torrential rain, the whole journey) sitting at 70 the oils was stable at 110 then when I dropped down to 50 them temp gage went to 80,then up again once cruising,
Does this mean I have a senior knackered or is this normal? This is the first car I have had with an oil gage sorry 😬plus I’m not at all mechanically minded , obviously
Thanks for any advice
Cheers

On the N20, N55 and N54 variable coolant temp control via the DME is used..this affects then the oil temp depending on the ‘program’ the ECU is using at that time..

Thank you for your reply B21, would you say this is normal and nothing to be concerned about?
Regards
From what you described I’d say that the thermostat isn’t working properly, nothing to worry about but it should stay around 100/110 degrees mark.

Thanks chippie it’s under warranty but I suppose it’s a hard one to prove that it needs replacing ??
Don't think there is a problem TBH. Both of the E89s (same engine as yours) I have had do this, depending on the situation.

If your thermostat was sticking open it would run cool all the time. If it was sticking shut, it would soon tell you.

Update… on my return journey the car was fine between 100/110 all the way , I also purchased a reader and no codes , looks like I was worried over nothing, thanks for all the reply’s 👍🏻
