Private plate

Walk down your street naked and shout "look at me, LOOK AT ME".

If you don't feel embarrassed you've justified the £2000 for the plate.

If you think it's worth £2K why not buy it?

I've never bought one, but my current Z4 came with one. I've thought about getting one, but it would have to mean something to me rather than be specific to the car. That way I'd get to keep it.

Suggestions about what?

We don't know what plate you have in mind (if you've got one in mind, that is), or you've simply set a budget of £2K and are looking for a suitable plate.

What is it you're asking, exactly?

I’m 60 in October. Just found MR Z4 60 for £399. Then realised for just over half that I could get a good quality hydraulic coil spring compressor and work safer.

And that plate would be only good for one year. :D

I have one on my 5 Series, but it only cost me £250.

2K is more than I paid for my Zed.

If you're happy paying that for a plate, just do it and sod what other people think.

Plate in question PKR 41S. Would be more than car

IMO that seems quite expensive for a 6 digit plate that doesn’t read anything immediately BUT if that plate is unique to you and those initials and numbers, or how it reads means something go for it (your user name obviously) No point in saving £500 and getting something “close” or “will do” I bought a 6 digit no year indicator one with mine and the kids initials for almost half what you’re quoting. But I bought right before Xmas and person accepted a cheeky offer :D

Where all this comes into prospective is if you’re buying it to keep cost is pretty irrelevant but in my case the initials are rarer combo/popular so I’d see my money back easily if I wanted to shift it on.

All imho

Agree that is far too much for that plate. Try to knock them down considerably or walk away.

It's only £2k because it's a suffix plate, which the DVLA don't sell anymore, so presume is being sold by one the million reg plate 'brokers'. They will be making around £1,500 on that.

And it is crap for that sort of wedge. I understand it is relevant to you, but it's still WAY overpriced. Probably been sitting around since 1978. :)

If you want it and 2K is no object, buy it.

First though ask yourself if there is anything else you need, or want more, for 2K?

I paid circa £300 for Y8 BXR for my 718 Boxster, had it three years and sold it when I sold the car for £250 on Boxa.net. I underpriced it, sold very quickly with loads of others wanting it also.

I treated myself to a private plate some 20 years ago, X3 ***, the latter being my initials. It's been on every car I've owned since then. From what I can remember, I paid about £500. It's probably worth several times what I paid for it by now, especially to the right BMW X3 owner!

OP, I really don't think that the plate you are considering is distinctive enough to be worth £2k at today's prices.
