So yeah, I'm teaching the summer school for the rest of this week, and I fancy blowing the extra cash on a private plate for my beloved zed. But I need help to decide which one to get.

The relevant personal info that you'll need to help you decide your vote is that my name is Paul Tait (no middle initial) and, obviously, my nickname is Spud.

Gogogo!

Think S2 is much closer than S9 for 'SP' and I'm not sure where the Ys and Ls come in for the other two. Thanks for the suggestions, though!

I've spent hours trawling through the site, so I think I've got most (reasonable) bases covered, haha.

Hmmm... I like the 'T8' bit at the start... so what could you have after...?

T8 WOW
T8 CYA
T8 BYE
T8 ZED
T8 BMW
T8 XXX

T8 is good but you won't get T8 BMW off the DVLA website and no 'Z' on old registration style either :(

All ones I've run and checked before, unfortunately!

I've always wondered this - is there a single reliable site that you can use to search for all registrations that are available through all the different agents rather than having to visit each one individually?

I didn't think there was and figured this could be a good website business oportunity but then I found carreg.co.uk...

Does anyone know whether that is in fact what they do?

why not just use the dvla, they are always cheaper because the other websites tend to buy them from there, the one i was looking at was 100 more everywhere else

Paul what about this one

HOW MUCH :o http://www.regtransfers.co.uk/main/enquiry.asp?regno=PT%208&saleprice=60000&searchtype=1&plateid=59805694

as above best bet is DVLA unless you going to spend a bit more my intials would be very pricey without a middle name remeber enquiring about GB 666 offers started at 8K :o

http://www.regtransfers.co.uk/main/enquiry.asp?regno=GB%202&saleprice=80000&searchtype=1&plateid=67291360 :o wonder what GB 1 is worth

Won't I get done by the 5-0 for illegal spacing, though?
Hell yeah but it would be a great plate while it lasted!
I had the letters mis-placed on my S2000 and I was never stopped. All your doing is moving the YT nearer to the 4 so you may never be stopped, look at Sixspeed, he hasn't even got a front plate!!!

But that's my point - they don't have everything - far from it. There are hundreds of thousands of registrations for sale from other plate suppliers that aren't listed on the DVLA site. So if you're after a specific plate you've got to trawl through them all if you really want to see if it's available.

I'm thinking of setting up a screen scraper site as I'm a web developer but I can't find out for certain whether that service already exists...

why not go for an unrelated non ageing plate like 362 GBA for £595 from the DVLA. That way you will always be able to put it on a car, even when you strike Lottery gold and get that 250 GTO/California Spider/Countach/Muira/D-Type that you always dreamed of. My plate starts with an M and i've had a couple of older cars that i couldn't use it on. Always p'd me off a little.

yep.. thats what I did, 362KTX for £500, love it.

And wrt the spacing, I looked this up recently. You can get points for a mis-spaced / undersized plate, but only a fine if it's missing. Bizarre, that is of course, if they bother stopping you at all.

And DVLA can withdraw your plate if not properly constructed in terms of size and spacing AND you can't recover the plate cost.....
