Private plate .. cant be found

Looking at an E38 with private reg M700PC but cant find any of the details using this reg online anywhere..

I have checked ebay, askmid, capconnect, bmw-warranty, dvla tax enquiry and all come back as invalid reg.

Is the reg really invalid or is it a db error? Without contacting the seller I doubt there is any other way of finding out im guessing?
 
M70 OPC is on a red 728i Sport Auto, first registered 4/5/2001, ... Or am I missing the point ?

The point is the OP is using 700 and not 70 and the letter O instead so getting no feedback from the sites used.

Unfortunately that's the issue with private plates, although a dealer may have the car registered against that number BMW UK will not update their systems unless the person who owns the car with the private plate submits a copy of their V5.

Not true.

I put my private plate on my Z4 and my local dealer - who already had the car on their system under its original registration - updated it the first time I went in, no paperwork required

[just the key :wink: ]

That's correct your Dealer will have your car under those details on their systems but in order to have BMW UK systems updated with regards to the warranty site etc BMW UK do need to see the V5 to update the registration otherwise they keep it as the original reg or the 7 digit vin number. It's probably more of an issue now that you cannot have your private plate applied to a AUC car prior to pick up meaning you now need to buy the car with the plate it's sold with and have the private plate applied later.

But if you need to speak with bmw UK and they haven't had the V5 they will not have it under the private plate, even if the dealer has it down as that.

2003 car so no warranty,

If BMW UK contact required for any reason I'll get my dealer to do it :)

p.s. private plate applied to numerous BMW's and never had an issue with them, well the VIN is a VIN :rofl:

Well as per my comments to blustreak, he's clearly been trying to get the 7 digit VIN from the BMW warranty site so he can get the details of the build online but as bmw UK do not have the private plate registered on their systems he can't get the data he wants. It's also a heads up to others looking to do the same in the future and wondering why they get no response.

Given the age of your car, if bmw UK needed to contact you with regards to a recall they usually consult the DVLA first to ensure they are contacting the current registered keeper. As per the letter through the door yesterday with regards to a passenger airbag recall on my E46, even if it had just been serviced by the local dealer.

P.s. I've also had my private plate applied to 1 bmw mini and 2 BMWs since the age of 17 and never had any issues either. I'm just confirming what bmw need to update their systems and not a franchised dealer because that's what dealers are, a franchise.
