privacy glass?

anyone had there non privacy glass cars tinted? my old car had privacy glass and it really improves the looks IMO - is it possible to get the same effect from a regular tint? a potential car i'm looking at doesn't have it?

can BMW retro fit it? or would it be horrendously expensive?

While OE privacy would be nice,
tint quality now is very good & available in many shades & % light rejection.

My car came with privacy glass on the driver's side, and regular glass on the passenger side. Looked close to 20%VLT. Unfortunately, when I talked to the dealership about it, they ended up swapping the privacy glass for the regular one (BTW, NA cars don't normally cone with the privacy glass). I didn't care since I tinted the car anyways.

hope this helps:

Why on earth would a factory error like that make it off the line?? Weird!

I really didn't like the option myself and passed on a few cars with it, each to their own though

Wouldn't people rather have the non-privacy rear side windows anyway? I always thought some Z4M look pretty weird when the rear side winows look tinted but the front side windows aren't. That way if someone does want to tint the windows all around, the tint shade would match perfectly.

I would not even think about changing the glass to tinted from standard. The cost will be out of sight by the time it's supplied and fitted. Bet you'd see no change out of £1000 for 2 side windows and a rear.

I had an X5 film tinted in 2001 prior to new delivery and it's as good as the day it was fitted. If I recall it was £500 for everything bar front screen.

Don't forget whatever you opt for the boys in blue are running around with meters testing opacity and issuing fines, points and rectification orders in the Midlands...

Must admit, since the stupid law in the UK about side window tints, I just think this new look of just having the rear window and side passenger windows tinted leaving the windscreen and driver and front passenger windows clear or minimal tint can look odd! It makes some cars look like a van! It looked OK on my last MINI, but personally think it looks all wrong on the Z4 Coupe! Looks better with the glass all being the same colour.

Agree - nothing looks worst than rear close to black and front almost clear driver forward.

I have no tints on the Z4 because I don't think they suit the roadster and it's dark enough anyway, but possibly the coupe. On the X5 I went for the darkest fully legal tint that gives a great 'classy' look and is identical on all the windows except screen that factory grad anyway. For me the black glass is for hot US states and UK drug dealers...
