Priti Patel never ceases in her bid to raise the stupidity bar to new levels.

Earlier in the year she told us that we must wage war on counter terrorism

Then she told us that the number of Covid-19 tests was "Three hundred thousand, thirty four, nine hundred and seventy four thousand”. :o

Last week she told us that we should celebrate the fact that shop lifting had fallen since the lock down :headbang:

And today she told the Home Select committee that the reason the government didn't ask air passengers to self-isolate was both because we had more and fewer passengers than other countries. Shrödinger’s Airline anyone?

Even the much lambasted former Labour shadow home secretary would struggle to match these levels of nonsense

It’s not possible to surpass Diane Abbott for stupidity, we should all be grateful she's nowhere near power
Rob

Her level of intelligence (lack of) is demonstrated by the fact that she omits the "g" at the end of every word endin' with "ing". Same about the present Mayor of London.

MI5 have reportedly being withholding intelligence from her due to their lack of trust in her abilities  Unfortunately for us she is in power

Fortunately for us there was such a lack of trust in Diane Abbott that she couldn’t get voted in

Funny how they've managed to withhold stuff from her, yet the fact they're doing it is 'reportedly' public knowledge.

Why let the truth get in the way of a good story! https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/feb/23/mi5-rejects-claims-withhold-intelligence-priti-patel

It would appear from your previous negative comments that your preferred political party did not win the last election. Never mind give it another 20 years and who knows. 🙄

You can blame the identity politics types for Priti. Bojo was just avoiding the Guardianista meltdown that picking an all white male front bench would trigger.

She is by clearly more mentally coherent than Diane though.

Like a lot of people I found there wasn't really a party I wanted to vote for or strongly preferred. Can't imagine we will have to wait 20 years for a change though.

If you didn’t vote then you have little to whinge about. Well there sure won’t be a change any time soon with the state of the current opposition. But you can always dream!

I did vote and I always have done. Parties in power and in opposition can and do change - lets see what happens after the current crisis passes. Not holding out much hope for the current Home Secretary though. A month can be a long time in politics let alone 20 years.

A month may be a long time in politics but early next month Labour will have been out of power for 10 years. To overturn a 80 seat majority will be a huge ask in 5 years time even if they manage to stop fighting amongst themselves. As far as our Home Secretary is concerned I will get back to you in a month! 🙂

Yes 80 is a big majority but there have been 3 bigger seat swings since the war - Harold Wilson, Edward Heath and of course Tony Blair with the largest at 200. It seems to me that politics is more volatile than for some time, perhaps ever, so I would not be surprised to see another big swing next time - whether that is all to Labour or whether we get a minority government remains to be seen.

With the UK about to go into the deepest recession since the 30's its clear that the scope to deliver the promises made at the last election will be hugely limited. Add to that the upcoming economic shock of the ending of the Brexit transition period (assuming the government cannot bring itself to ask for an extension) and you have a really tough position from which to hold onto votes many of which were lent on the basis that austerity was ending. One thing I think is clear - the public have realised more than ever before the value of our essential workers both in the public and private sectors - any party that cannot respond to that is going to be in trouble at the ballot box.

Back on topic - Fancy a wager on Patel surviving the next reshuffle?

I don't get the ongoing obsession with a politician who had no power and has moved on anyway. I'm more focussed on the incompetents actually messing the country up today.

No obsession here, just making a comparison in reply to the op
