I only use colour lasers now. Inkjet running costs are ridiculous and I got fed up of the nozzles getting bunged up. We have three of these and I rate them highly, but possibly overkill if you don't need all the features.

Some of the Epson Workforce range are almost matching the lasers for speed and ink yields.
You pay a little less for the printer, and about the same per page in ink costs as the laser (£140 for XL inks to do 2600 black / 1700 colour inkjet pages vs £400 for the XL toner to do 2800 black / 2300 colour laser pages).
I've used Epson photo printers for years- my current (3 year old one) is a XP860. But you spend more on the inks for these as you lay more of the 6 inks down as it's a photo oriented printer.

Amazing value! I only use compatible inks and have found for the brother printers you xan pick up compatibles that are excellent quality even printing photos and I'm paying less than 50p per cartridge!

The toners in our HP ones can easily be refilled in about 5 mins, the refill bottles are £10 per colour and I've done the shop printers twice and still probably have enough for a third, or you can buy a full set of compatible toners for around £100.
The refills make the cost per page negligible IMO.

I can recommend HP Envy 4524 with the HP instant Ink, where they monitor the ink usage and supply replacement cartridge well in time before it runs out. Costs me about £3.49 a month for 100 prints and all ink is free.
Worth considering if for low volume home use and ink supplied direct to you. They even provide prepaid envelope for sending the old cartridge.

Just looked up the inks I use in mine and they are slightly more than I thought (actually £1.30 a cartridge buying 10, come down to just under a quid if you buy 25+ at once) but still ludicrously cheap and the prints are excellent. I've had the printer 18 months now bought a couple of cartridges when I first got it then did a bulk buy of 5 sets 6 months later not bought any since September 2016 and don't need any more for the foreseeable future. These inks last ages!

I used to manage a Cartridge world store and used to be all for re-manufactured toner carts and inks but these compatibles in a brother all in one is by far the cheapest I've found and so little effort, just swap the carts the same way as you would an original takes literally 10 seconds and they last ages so very rare they need swapping

It might be a little overkill on what you might need, but you can lease these now with all components and servicing thrown in as part of the deal. I tend to buy more expensive models that are heavily discounted for one reason or another (open-box or superceded by a new model) but ship with full-size toners - often works out cheaper than buying the toners themselves.
e.g. Something like this Lexmark CS820de for around £200 - £600 off RRP - A4 colour laser, full duplex, free delivery, ships with 8,000 page black & colour toners so, for home use, will likely last for years. Then when the toners run out, either look for a refill kit or look for another bargain printer...
Similar deals are available on MFPs - my current one is a Xerox Workcentre that I picked up heavily discounted

Do you really need colour? I have a mono Rioch laser with colour scanner. Was about £40.

Hi! How did it go? I had an HP deskjet 2620 but since I'm a designer I had to look for other options like a3 printers, I found a lot of comparisons there and I also checked expert review. Maybe that helps you next time. Did you get a good deal?
