I'd imagine its down to limited availability of parts for the older cars. Quite a few are no longer available - like E85 handbrake assemblies.

No, imho not. As I'm tracking these prices since years, I see a strategy behind it.

There are never price changes according to the inflation, but continously extrem price jumps between 2x or even 10x for single parts. Following this strategy over years, the revenue is much higher than only following any inflation rates.

Can be seen on the 3-series and 4-series with same parts used in both convertible roofs.

Microswitch Coupling Lock Left/Right

12/2023: 17€
01/2026: 68€
03/2026: 144€

Same with other roof related parts for the different convertibles and roadsters.
I'm tracking prices since years on ZRoadster.com, but the current situation is really strange.
They will blame it on the war(s) in the middle east. Good excuse for everything else to go up, so why not?

Lack of parts is bonkers too, just tried to get a rear light seal, managed to get a drivers side one, but not a passenger side. No UK or German stock. So I've asked a company how much they'd charge to cut me some.

Another nice excuse might be, they are following my recommendations and suggested replacements. :D
