Pre Faceblift Brake Lights - Pressure Sensitive!!

Okay forgive me for being slow and all but i'm not used to looking at my cars back-end under heavy braking. That and leading convoy groups on Z4 runs makes it hard to notice!

But i never realised that the 2nd half of the brake light lights up under heavy braking!! Only realised when following another Z4, the driver was too busy looking at my fine car and shortly after realised they needed to brake a little sharply at the oncoming red lights!

Just an fyi people before you go modding your clusters :D

yep.. there's a how-to on here somewhere (might have been the old z4um) that lets you mod them to all come up even on gentle application.

its an easy and good mod to get the whole circle to light up all the time. looks much better and takes about 2 minutes. there is various threads about it.

Yes, it is called adaptive brake lights. I modified mine not to do this and light up the entire light assemble.

It's a great idea that in the real world, blows goats. It only works if the person behind you knows... 90% of BMW drivers don't even know about this 'Feature'.... It's really useless in application.

Nice feature covered in the owner's manual.

There are few enough opportunities to look at the rear of a coupe, I don't even know which clusters light! :)

yes, like the auto dip mirror when selecting reverse. Why was it on my E46 Coupe and not my z4. Idiots.

I believe there to be a new EU law that states all new cars must have this soon, except that the lights will have to flash upon heavier braking to make it more obvious because as you say most BMW driver arent aware of this feature let alone any other driver.

Think the new Z4 flashes BTW.

I don't think this feature was ever meant for people to know what it means, rather that enough lights are coming on to make sure it gets their attention (and in a hurry).

I converted mine and am happy to have a full circle of light and the centre third brake light to warn I'm braking. They do however decrease the differentiation between sidelights and brake lights. Still not something I'm worried about.

Yeah Rudd, or such as finally sourcing a set of wheels..... what you reckon?

I have to disagree with most of you on this one. I will admit on a general days driving no real use, but when on a run with a group Z's it's a really handy indication of whose doing what in front. Sunday in the peeks being tail end charlie, being a case in point ,I found the feature really usefull. tight & twisty section's with a dab of brake...... :) or "whoaaa be jesus"... let's chuck the anchor over the side........ :o
Which bring's me onto another question. I wonder what other hidden secret's the Z has tucked away...?? :tumbleweed:
