Power top not working. Trunk switch issue.

Got a problem with my trunk tray switch. About half the time I have to go into the trunk and jiggle the tray a few times to loosen up the switch. :headbang: (yes...the tray is all the way down...always has been down)

You can hear the switch click on/off as you raise/lower the tray, and there seems to be plenty of travel in it, not like it's set right on the verge of clicking on or off. Sometimes, even after I know it's switched on/off several times, the top still won't go down until I jiggle it a few more times. It's like there is something loose inside the switch, or maybe corroded inside the switch mechanism. I don't know how the switch gets set (and stuck) in the "interrupt" mode, once it's already set in the "go" mode, but it does every few days. Sometimes more frequently. :x

I had it replaced once by the stealer when it was under warranty. Has anyone replaced one of these tray switches? If so, how hard is it to replace?

Thanks!

Hmm, sorry Mike, haven't done it myself. But I would imagine that it is like any other positional switch,,,,,, unscrew, remove plug, and replace. Sure that someone may be along shortly to add or detract from my 2 cents. :D

Well...contorting this big old body far enough into the trunk to get to the thing is going to be a bit of a challenge, so if it's a matter of removing interior panels, removing the stow tray, etc. etc., I might have to bite the bullet and take it in. But if it's as easy as plug & play, I might give it a try.

I had to replace mine about two months after I bought my car.

The spring arm on the switch is most likely bent so it is not making the switch properly.

Pictures here.

That is a good write-up, Ship, thank you!
I can hear the switch open/close as I jiggle the shelf up/down, so I think it is still "actuating" properly, just not making the electrical connection properly. The switch occasionally just decides to go from working to not working for no apparent reason.
Be that as it may, I'm pretty sure the fix has to involve replacement of the switch, so your post is very helpful.
Were you ever able to post those pdf file(s) with the removal instructions for the shelf & switch?
If not, can you e-mail them to me, or tell me where to find them? Thanks a bunch!!!
