Power chips - are they any good?

Sport button only does steering and throttle response.

But I think the remapper can increase the throttle response through the software

Yes indeed they can! I've had it done on my E46 and it takes the 'lag' out the response, a well known 'glitch' in the fly by wire technology used in the accelerator

Thanks for clarifying that. It makes the retune more affordable $$ wise if you think about it. Most retunes are about $800 or so, the company I am going with : http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/products-Y2FyX21ha2U9Ym13JmNhcl90eXBlPXo0JmNhdF9pZD05NSZjb21wX2lkPTg=.html Offers it and seeing that throttle boosters themselves alone cost about $300, it makes the whole retune a bit easier to swallow

does anyone have an actual before and after dyno chart with their re-map/chipped Z4??

i agree with Curtis. i would rather have 20 more hp across the rpms vs having a 50 hp gain at one point in the curve, but having almost no difference in all other parts of the curve

I contacted DMS yesterday and they came back with they reckon they can get 250-255bhp out of the 231bhp 3.0i and will provide a before and after rolling road reading for £599+VAT....

Would DMS take £100 of so's you can rolling road elsewhere? I wonder :D !

For that money it does'nt seem worth it to me. I've added 30bhp to a car before and the difference was pretty marginal. Real world difference is like hitting the accelerator a fraction earlier than you would have.
I would rather spend the money on suspension/brake upgrades.

This has got me interested now! Thanks for all the contributions.

How much is a generic remap, approx? And, at the risk of being a damp squib, what are the implications for insurance? Having had a major prang I know they'll go over the car very thoroughly and I'd not want them not covering me.

Btw, Sport button also delays the change up for those of us with auto's.

Its not cheap, works out at about £37 per extra hp...

Would be better off putting the £600+VAT towards a european driving hoon :driving: - anyone up for it? :D

If it was £250 it would be easier to swallow for such small return in power, even that is a lot more than I paid for a customised chip for my 200sx (including setting the base timing, idle speed, configuring boost controller and on the road modifications to the stock stage 1 map using a wideband and det cans - all for £199).
