Powder coating alloys ?

Just been quoted £150 per wheel + vat (£720) at Wheel Specialist ... this for the full kerbing bash fixing and powder coating job ... not horrible old wheels to start with but will get the full proper treatment anyway ... seems a bit pricey?

OOooshhh!!! guess it depends on the damage rectified & the end product .
Dropped mine off & had a peep around while the guy talked me through ,
the old wheels go in a oven at 300deg to melt any existing paint & lacquer . Then shotblasted & "prepped" ? ?
followed by powder coating in chosen colour followed by a lacquer coat with sparkle in .
£27 a wheel for 18's + vat :driving: pics on monday when i collect them but he said they are currently doing around 70 SETS a week :o

I pay £200 for a set of wheels to get power coated...

That price from the wheel specialist is shocking IMO...

Here are my 20" summer wheels just done...

I,m having mine done sparkle black but they do have the factory BMW silver ,
If you can't find a local place to do for your budget you could meet me at the portsmouth ferryport & i would happily take them home & drop them at the place , then when done you could arrange a courier from my house ? (be about £30 )
i would wrap them well for you

Mr.Wilks .... thanks for the offer ... alas logistics dictate and it would be very awkward ... as it is I can drop the car at Wheel Specialist and pick it up 3 days later, job done etc. and it looks like the only way at the moment ... (wife's car/working in London/live Port Solent and so on!) ... wheels - only slight kerbing on a couple of them but corrosion on the inner rims on 3 of them ... they're split rims so have to be taken apart etc ... can't help thinking I'm being ripped off to Kingdom Come but it looks like being the only way to get it done ... be interested to know if anyone else has had a quote from these people ... no doubt it would be cheaper if they weren't split rims but can't help wondering what the price might have been if I'd turned up in something other than a Z4 !!!

I use the wheel specialist thats closest to us (Manchester branch)...

They charge us £250 for a set of 18" wheels to be refurbed..

BUT.....Thats 1 piece wheels, and we qualify for trade pricing.

£720 is ridiculous, although VAT is £120,and there is a bit of work in splitting the wheels and removing/remounting the tyres..

Maybe buy a cheap set of 16" wheels, remove yours and get tyres removed and split the wheels yourself. Sounds like you have the potenetial to save £400ish at least ?

Then sell the 16" wheels on again..

Depends on the damage to be repaired......

Set of 19" on my 325 at Wheel Specialists - £320 (2011) - excellent finish. Of course you get what you pay for :P

Hardly any damage ... just some kerbing paint off the very edges in maybe one of two places on 3 of the wheels ... wheels look perfectly ok until you look closely at the rim inside where there's some corrosion ... could be lived with but I'd prefer them done and looking good. I think the quote is a rip-off ... be good if someone could get an on-line quote from a Wheel Specialist 'up country' somewhere for 4 x 18" 108 split-rims in silver powder coat ... you can get quotes on-line but they've got my e-mail address so I can't do it myself! Purely as a matter of interest as I'll probably use them anyway just because it's easy ... just be nice to know if they're a worthwhile company who can be relied on or just another typical British rip-off merchant ... be useful info for anyone considering getting their wheels done!
