POSTPONED - Central Scotland - 22nd April - Open Meet?

Ok, so my mate gets back from Afghanistan on the 19th April. He's back for two weeks, but spending the weekend 28/29 April in Germany. He's a petrol head and has asked me whether there's anything to do whilst he's in the UK.

I've suggested that we head to Knockhill for a track day on Sunday 22nd April, and that we plan a hooning route for the journey down and back. This was the only event I could find that might be of any use.

I've been karting at Knockhill several times, but never been to a trackday. This one is labelled "hot hatch" trackday. Has anyone been to the same type of event? Will the crowd be mainly made up of spotty 19 yr olds with Mk4 Escort RS Turbos and Saxo VTRs? Is my car likely to get stolen or damaged? Am I being too cynical?

If you've been to a trackday at Knockhill - was it any good? Any tips or advice. If we go, I will be spectating only. My mate might take his Impreza on the track - to relieve his itchy right foot

If it's generally a good event to go to, I'd be happy to put a route together for any fellow forumites that want a meet/drive on that day.

Avoid any hot hatch days at Knockhill, always badly run, far too many cars, full of idiots in their boy racer saxos. Ok, a bit of a generalisation, but you get the picture. Definitely don't take your pride and joy to this!

I've only ever done Track Scotland and Dreadnaught track days. Never has any problems and neither have friends. Join the TrackScotland forum. I hired out Knockhill once myself, £2000 for 2 hours. But if you can get 20 mates\colleagues etc it's pretty good value for an empty track.

I was worried that it would be full of teenagers driving Saxo/Nova type cars.

Might just have to arrange a hoon up the A93 instead...

Surely we can organise this within the forum. What do you reckon Adam, Fancy starting a join in thread, Might be worthwhile giving KH a call and get info.
I would be up for it, if we had the track to ourselves alot less chance of dings and dents.
Appreciate this is no good for you and your mate but certainly a possibility for later in the year.

Usually track days numbers are 45 for Track Scotland events and up to 60 for Hot Hatch days, so the track will feel very empty, which is a good thing for newbies. In comparison you usually pay £70 for 2 hours but I sold it at £100 for 2 hours, but half the number of cars.

I would suggest getting 22 or 23 people to ensure you cover your costs so if someone pulls out you're not left out of pocket. I could easily get 8 folk along.

Here's the cost from Knockhill website

"Evening 2 Hours £1,700 + VAT (max 30 cars or bikes, £30 + VAT per additional car/bike)

Sounds like a plan :driving:

I'm booked for the tracknight on the 11th May, after the last trip to Knockhill ended up cancelled with the fog :headbang:

I'd definately be interested in tagging along to another organised meet.

+1 sound like a plan. We can start another thread for that

For this thread - I'm still up for organising a route for the 22nd. Given that the original plan was to do a days hooning combined with a stop somewhere, I'll throw this one out for opinion. Where's worth going to see? I'm happy to put a route together. Would need to be fairly central (although my preference would be to keep it Central to North East  ).

My thoughts are - we could open up the event to forum members and friends of forum members? What are peoples opinions on this? Route details would be by PM only, to keep things in house and away from unwanted attention?

Drive up the A93 sounds tempting? Thoughts?

As mentioned in my original post, the reason for starting the thread is that my friend gets back from Afghan on the 19th. I've not confirmed this with him yet, so this is provisional for now. But, subject to there being enough interest, I'll put a route together.

Who's going:

Could be tempted. Pretty busy later this month but should be able to make it and confirm nearer the time.

Likewise. Consider me a "possible" for a drive on the 22nd...

Definate No from me, sorry.
Stuck in Italy driving a diesel Focus Estate until the 28 April at the earliest, what p1sses me off even is having got here the day the world Superbikes were at Imola and then driving passed it yesterday :headbang:

Still could be up for Knockhill if the timings right, as with all these things.

I'll watch out for this one Adamski but at the moment we're unlikely to make it due to some other stuff that weekend. Hope it works anyway.

I can't make it mate have other commitments :(
but if things change I will be there.

No worries guys. Thanks for letting me know either way :)

Will definitely be doing a drive that day anyway, if anyone fancies coming, the more the merrier
