After the most spectacular thread hijack of all time :D, I thought it best to create a proper thread for some of us Z4-owning cycling weirdo's to post up photos of our rides.

It seems there's a few of us quote into biking/MTBing on here which is quite strange given you can't fit a proper bike into a Z4 (sorry gannet, that just isn't a proper bike ). I night-ride weekly and get out most weekends too - a mixture of natural local trails and purpose-built trail centres. I'll start us off with my current stable...

Gary Fisher Rig 29er
- yup, big wheels on a MTB, amazing bike. Fork now adjusted to 100mm. Pictured here with an Alfine internal gear hub but I often swap in my singlespeed rear wheel for added pain...

Genesis Altitude 753
- general do-it-all bike, but possibly being replaced with a Cotic BFe in a couple of months as I'm probably riding beyond what the frame was designed for!

Giant Reign
- not my main bike but sees use on light DH and general messing around; the forks make it though, 160mm 66SL's. It's seen a few changes since that photo, namely the bashring and the steerer tube cut to a better length.

And finally, the commuter: Genesis Vapour
- CX bikes are awesome! Not as quick as a road bike on tarmac, but much better for commuting on as I can get the hell off the tarmac and go offroad on my way to/from work.

So, lets see 'em :poke:

Wow, A11y, some nice bikes there! The single speed, is that a fixed or freewheel hub? Is it fun? Considering one, but not sure why :?

Here's mine (again, sorry CJ)...
bike-1.jpg

Parked up at work. Pretty much just used to get to and from work, 8 miles through the countryside (mostly)... love it! Need the MTB as I sometime go along the Thames which gets pretty messy in places. Only issue, the Giant brakes - master cylinders (metal) heat up in the sun, brake fluid expands and pushes the brakes on. Grrr. Otherwise brilliant piece of kit!

Here is it attached to the car - wheels in the boot...
BikeRackBack.jpg

(this is still a car forum after all... with photography, pets, powertools and now bikes)

it may not be a 'proper' bike but I will defend it... and of course it all depends on what you need a bike to do

Easy cruising speed of > 20mph, current average a little below 16mph (it has been windy )

I pass several bigger wheeled serious cycles daily... some even try to keep up, but not for long :D

I will get a shot of the actual bike rather than the marketing shot I've posted before.

oh and it fits nicely in the boot of the zed :D

I do also have a fixed frame Raleigh M-Trax 1000 bought many many years ago and hardly ever ridden...

One pic on the "Hijack" thread! :P

Some more here.

The Trek in it's natural habitat.

TrekFuel002Small.jpg

The Trek with my old bike from my mountain bike racing days (a few years ago now! It still looks good though! A mate used to make the frames! Such a light bike that one!!), now my missus bike!

TrekFuel001Small.jpg

I have an old Diahatsu 4x4 to cart them around in! :P

Don't get out as much as I like to as I teach fitness classes in the evenings and weekends, some of them being indoor spin classes! Going no where fast!! :P

I bought a Trek 7300 about 4 years ago when I was working in London, as it was quicker to cycle the 10 miles than tube-tube-bus-walk it.

...and bought a cheap Trek 4500 (or something similar) before that to play in the local woods...
trek4500.jpg

Both my bikes are currently being use by my brother-in-law for his commute.
He uses the cheapo Trek 725 MTB for wet weather and the Trek 7300 hybrid for nicer days. He prefers the 7300 as it's about half the weight of the 725.

I had originally wanted a Trek Police bike, but had difficulty finding one at the time...

After seing these bikes, I'm not posting any pics of mine.

Pawn what rack are you using on the Z4, and do you have confidence it wont damage the car. Saris Sentinel do one they say is suitable for Z4, the bones model isnt, but this would solve my immediate issue of selling the Z4 :D

Do it! Singlespeeds are pure hell to ride but there's a certain satisfaction from them despite that :D. Mine's got a freewheel - some folk do ride off-road with a fixie but it's very very difficult. It is fun but so is adding my 8-speed Shimano Alfine gear hub onto it - best of both worlds and ideal for dealing with winter muck. The 29" wheels are a bonus though as once rolling you don't get slowed down by bumps etc.

I really like the appearance of the newer Trek full-sussers - very nice design with the rear pivot around the axle (I fancy a new Trek Scratch but I never buy bikes new - all mine are secondhand bargains). But that other/older bike - do I spot an E-stay?! Wildgrippers? And anodized purple bits - sooooo 90's  Wow, that's quite a nice rare bike :)

2007 Specialized Allez Triple, with 105 Groupset, Ultegra Wheels, Keo Carbon Pedals

GT Pantera pretty much as I bought it a few years ago.

Don't get the chance to use either that much, that said friends arriving later today are brining bikes with them, just not sure if they are bringing their road bikes or MTB's depends on the weather so looking at the forecast it'll be the MTB's.

Yes it is! Purple anodised removable rear drop-outs and Pace RC35 forks!! HOPE oversized front hub and sealed BB and the original USE seat pin! I built the bike up myself. I think, in it's day it was around £2,000 worth! Actually more than the new Trek cost! It's had a lot of use/abuse over the years that bike!!
Still all functioning perfectly!! V Brakes, Shimano rear hub/block and shifters are the only recent upgrades (it had the Suntour Micro-drive system but you can't get spares for that now!!).

I almost turned it into a single speed!

Never was a big fan of full suspension cross country bikes, but that Trek is awesome to ride and the suspension lock-out works well!

This is my commuter bike. A hybrid, of course, to compensate for driving a Z4 :P
It's a Flyer C8:
C-Serie_tiefeinstieg.jpg

I use the bike to go to work instead of the car when it's... not raining, not so cold you'd use the heated seats, not so warm you'd use the aircon

Fos the benefit of others, it's a...
F2: Hollywood Baja Spoiler Rack for 3 Bikes - bought in 2007 for £70.

This looks like the replacement...

(good site for anyone not using already)

I was using it wrong, so I'll test it again this weekend  But yes, worked well.

Sadist! Cycled to work this morning for the first time in months... had to move the front down to the middle cog for a 12% hill that damn near killed me :( 8 miles in 40 minutes, the shame! Still, should get easier, and hopefully before too long.
