Possible to buy carbon dash/console new?

Anyone bought these from a dealer - is it still possible to buy the carbon effect dash and console parts new?

I don't know if they're still available, but last time I looked (about 2 years ago) it was about £1500 for the dash & trans tunnel.

I've wondered this too. For some unknown reason it seems that some M buyers specced the standard aluminium dash instead of the M carbon dash when new.

Now I'd been ruling out any where this had been done but if the right car came along then a swap to the correct trim for a M would be a possible option. Though at £1500 that's probably put that idea to bed for me.

Very rarely they come up on eBay, might be worth keeping an eye on there but as others have said it certainly won't be cheap :( Not sure why you would spec the alu trim either when the carbon weave was a standard option, seems strange!

Have you considered getting it carbon wrapped or even dipped?

Never tried it or seen anything done, but I did come across this.... http://www.shadyscarbon.co.uk

Anyone else have experience of this?

I saw an MC that had this kind of thing done to the dash and console, really didn't like it. It reminded me of the cheap plastic bolt on stuff you get in Halfords.
If you're considering vinyl wrap then I think the piano black effect would look loads better, the kind of durable stuff you get on kitchen/ bathroom units.

Not considering it anymore for my car as I must be one of the only people to currently like the ali dash, but it seems to work with my split interior imo. I was just wondering how it looked, and your feedback has afirmed what I thought. Cheers

Had the alu dash in an Si and quite liked it. Quite a few cars for sale at the moment with alu dash. As someone else has said, it's a weird option to choose considering the carbon dash was std and M specific.
I was thinking 3-400 quid, not £1500! I'd expect real carbon fibre for that price ! :)

I wouldn't consider any wrap or dip - no way.

I wonder if the aluminium part could be stained or lightly painted whilst retaining the texture to look a bit more gunmetal :? Could look really nice if done well.

Wasn't there someone on here who thought they'd found a supplier for the carbon leather? Anything ever come of that?

You can buy the carbon leather, so the best option would be to get some scrap panels covered in this.

Would be a dam sight cheaper than getting from BMW.

I have a sample some where and have already listed the supplier on here in the past.

Wow... Didn't really expect them to go that high.
Anyhow, have you already tried ebay or craigslist? You're almost guaranteed to get something cheaper off there than from any dealer. Just have to keep on looking.
cheers~

They do pop up once in a blue moon, but then for stupid money. I sold a set 3 years ago for £300 to a forum member. And I doubled my money on then. How times change.

Hi just been reading the thread and I was thinking something similar for the Ali dash panels. I'm looking at having them hard anodised a gun metal colour. I've a couple of caliper brackets I've made and sending them of for anodising so I'll post up finished items. Probably a fairly cheap and long lasting finish.

Yup yup and YUP, a; you need is a tinted lacquer, they use this finish on brushed alloy wheels regularly and it looks incredible, thats such a good idea beanie!

Looking forward to seeing the results stevie  Anodizing is a great idea, should give a 'proper' look to it and should be more than durable enough too.

Just had a quick look at tinted, brushed wheels-never knew it was done, though its obvious when you think about it! I think the only downside is that you're likely to lose the texture this way.

I've never wanted an aluminium dash as much as i do right now!

wasnt aware you could anodise them as they are only plastic ali effect surely. i guess u could spray them a translucent paint colour that would let the ali colour show through to give an anodised look. have done this on polished ali bike casings in the past , looks really good but doesnt wear well in areas that get rubbed.

You could probably double it if you sold it on and make more than I did.

Only reason I got it cheap was because it was back in 2008 when less serious modding was going on, and the fact the seller would not post which seriously limited his market.
