Possible numpty question about tailgate gas struts

Should the tailgate actually open up fully when using the boot unlock button on the keyfob? Mine unlatches but I still have to pivot the BMW emblem and lift the tailgate up which makes the button on the keyfob a bit redundant.

I wondered if it was just the gas struts getting weak?

Mine opens about an inch, so you can open it from the base of the boot without needing to pivot the emblem. Still not ideal if you're carrying five bags of shopping, where you want a full swing open like on some Audis/other clearly inferior cars :fuelfire: , but it definitely opens a bit

I think there are arguments both ways on this. Some want boots and tailgates to open fully, others just to unlatch.

I certainly don't want a boot that flies open, allows some numpty walking by to steal anything in it as I get out of the car, or in the instance of a tailgate or hatch have MrSCJ press a button and have it hit a carparkmroof roof.

Its the closing bit I dont like!
I have always closed a boot lit and given it a check to ensure its latched properly - It gave me a bit of a shock when it tried to bite my fingers!

I only did it once! :D

Its the same on the 1 series hatch.....the button on the fob unlatches it, but you still have to use the BMW emblem to open it! Someone on there did a mod fitting stronger gas struts, but thats probably not a good idea on the Z4.

I like the soft close option.
