Possible Marmite group buy!

Hi all,

A few months ago I spotted a very nice Phoenix Yellow Z4R (belonging to Dewi) in either a gallery or signature and something caught my eye... it was a side skirt stone protector.

Above serving a purpose of protecting against chips and flying stones, I thought it looked smart! :D It transpires they were made out of stick on carbon fibre vinyl. I made a shape based on those on Dewi's car, and made a set myself out of carbon fibre wrap and have had them on each skirt for a while now (see pic below). Whilst looking the part, I felt that they would be better if made out of real carbon fibre. Fast-forward weeks of R&D, and I have a supplier that can cut them to shape out of real 2mm carbon fibre + has various colours available.

So... firstly, I want to gauge if you like them (I welcome negative feedback, but only constructive please!); secondly, if anybody would be interested in buying a set with me?

The carbon fibre can be in red, blue, green, silver, and black - hopefully you can see all pics.

Cheers,

Moheddine

Firstly they actually look ok on your Z'd, are they actually big enough to protect? :?

I posted something similar a few weeks ago....I'm looking for some for the AeroSkirts! http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=74188

I would go for clear personally, but I did like them on the Pheonix Yellow, I was looking at these on eBay for £30, unfortunately they don't fit aero's

Thanks!

Yes, size is good, and follow natural contours (i.e. curve gap to edge of wheel arch matches gap at bottom of protector).

I'm thinking J.Essex may go for the red option

well i posted this a year ago it :thumbsup:http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=50003&p=725687&hilit=blue+peter+moment#p725687

I will be taking my car to the place I mentioned in the next couple of weeks so will let you know how I gt on. IF we are going clear on aero's then I think the area you have marked is best.

I will let you know how I get on.

Cool - looks good. As mentioned, I've got my vinyl versions - but thought I'd go with carbon fibre because it looks loads better (IMO!) and is much more durable. Depends on interest though, as not worth my or the manufacturer's worthwhile if it's just my set being made! I guess if you're after something discrete, then clear is your best option.

8) 100% want clear, and want full coverage (as photo) put me down for a set if you get the go ahead!

To me (unless they are clear) it comes in the same category as "car bras" (do they still have them in the USA?) and seat covers. Sounds like clear would work ok but personally I'd be inclined to wrap the whole panel.

Mine are a bit smaller now. I was never sure about the large ones that came with the car, being a total contrast to the PY I thought they looked a tad big and cumbersome so I made some smaller ones from C/F look vinyl wrap, picked up from E.Bay for about £6. The big ones look better on your silver / grey I think.

Would actual CF not sit too proud of the bodywork?
No - thick enough so you can tell it's carbon fibre, and at 2mm it's flexible enough for the slight curve on the bodywork
