Anyone used these on their 3.0 M54 engine Z's?

aFe Intake Kit - E85 Z4 2.5i 03-05 - Stage 1 ProDry S

or

aFe Intake Kit - E85 Z4 3.0i 03-05 - Stage 1 Pro5R

Both avalble for from, http://www.ca-automotive.co.uk/home.php

They do 2 types, one whch needs oiling or a dry one? Thinking of going for the oiled one but is their any difference betwee the 2 types?

Looks interesting to me,

I would go for the dry kit if possible, maybe contact Roy at CA in the UK and see if he can get you a better price :)

Who is CA? Yeah I guess oiled one is better for any issues with the Maf.

I run a AFE intake on my S54. In terms of build quality it's not a GruppeM by any means but then again it's a lot cheaper so that's not a big issue. The extra noise is fantastic, I'm not a fan of loud pipes except on my bikes so it's a great way of getting some extra grin factor without any drawbacks.

Give them a call and ask to speak to Roy :) They deal alot with the states so maybe able to get you a good price delivered to your door :)

If your thinking of a group buy let us know as i may be interested depending on price :)

M Style also list them too but i expect CA will be cheaper :)

All,

Just spoken to Roy at CA sounds a nice guy. He said they have done group buys before and he is going to send me the price for 1 and then the price for 5+ on a group buy.

He said the oil one is better and uses less oil than the k&n ones and said will not cause any issues with the MAF as long as they are not over oiled when it comes to maintenance on it. This would probably not need doing got a long time if people like me only use the cars at weekends.

Once I get the prices I will update so would be good to know who would be interested in a group buy?

The more we get the better price we should get but initially he said he will price it for 5+

Hi all,

Just had a Response from Roy at CA

Looks like he's offeting it cheaper than list price even for one but would knock a further £23 off for 5+ orders. If it got to say 10+ then it would be more.

Here is the reply to my email and this is the one for the 3.0 m54 engine but would be the same for the N52 cars too

Dear Stuart
Many thanks for your call earlier J

I believe it was AFE part number 54 10661 as below image you were referring to , with blue filter ?
The full list price 2015 is £418.00 inc vat and all import duties etc.
For a single order we can offer at £365.00 inc vat .
UK delivery £16.00 each.
For 5 units together, can do £342.00 inclusive each.
How does that seem ?

Be careful with CA Automotive - Roy told me he had the aFe intake for the ///M in stock and that it would be delivered within a week. He quoted a good price so I agreed to the sale and paid him. It didn't materialize so I contacted him after two weeks and he told me it was on back order from the States! He also told me that he had made an error and that the price was more than he thought. I considered cancelling the order but he was still cheaper than elsewhere and the GruppeM was hard to obtain (at that time) and hideously expensive. As such, I reluctantly agreed to pay the additional amount.
After several weeks of delays and multiple ignored emails and phone calls (answered by an assistant as he was always out of the office), I told CA that I wanted to cancel the order. By some miracle, he then became available to talk. He assured me that the parcel was at customs and gave me a number to call. It transpired that the parcel had been in the UK for a week but was awaiting release after payment of customs charges. I contacted Roy and reminded him that he had quoted a price 'as delivered' and he told me that it was an imported special order so I was liable for customs charges. I complained and tried to cancel the order. He told me that to cancel I would have to return the item under the Distance Selling Regulations and that he wouldn't pay the carriage. He also told me that he wouldn't refund any customs charges as they were not paid to him!
I really couldn't be bothered to pursue the matter through the Small Claims Court as I wanted the intake and the additional costs were not vast. However, he is an unprincipled piece of s**t and I would prefer to walk than give him any further business!
I have spoken with various people since who have had similar issues with his poor business practices and several Indys have told me they have stopped purchasing parts through him altogether. I acknowledge that there has been a large group buy through his company on this forum recently and that seemed to be without issue. However, I would exercise caution and go elsewhere if you have a choice of sources for the parts you want.

Cheers for that info makes for interesting reading.

Just emailed him about customs and this was the response

Hiya

All customs and import duties are included.
The only time a customer has to pay such taxes is when the “grey import” items directly themselves, and are not usually aware of such taxes. If they order from a registered, bonefide UK company, like CA and many other good UK companies, all such taxes are included, and in fact it often works out cheaper than buying direct, because our import taxes are based on a lower value ( trade value) than the retail value they pay , so their taxes are higher ;)

Hope that all made sense ? LOL
All the best
Roy

I bought mine three years ago, so perhaps he pulled that trick too many times and someone complained about his dodgy practices!

Yeah hopefully that's the case :D

Seems a good price 381 inc all shipping and import duties. Just been looking on Ebay and messaged a few people and you can get it for around £350 inc postage but they said that I would have to contact customs to see what charges are and I can't be bothered messing about with all that.

I am thinking of going ahead with ordering one anyway and at least I have the emails as proof of price and all customs charges being included.

Not really sure this is going to go well with a group buy though? Had a few people insterested but will see over the next few days before I order mine

Last time I used Roy for a group buy (a few months ago) it was trouble free and very efficient, but I had heard bad things in the past but I think they are in the past now :)

I am Interested if 5 is are, won't be able to do anything until Tuesday next week at the earliest though as I'm waiting for my handbrake to be looked at and it all depends how much it will cost :)

Good luck...give him a metaphorical kick from me

Ha ha

Out of interest did you get the dry or oiled one? Did you notice any drop in power / throttle response or did the heat shield do the job?
