Some of you may know of some of my experiences of BMW dealers, so it was with great apprehension that I booked mine in at a BMW dealer for an OSF wheel bearing replacement. However, to mitigate my concerns somewhat I booked it in to one I'd only done business with once before when looking to buy my Z4MC.

Normally I would have taken it to my mate & ///M specialist, but there was no time and the ultimate cost (if you include the petrol to get there, his labour and the inevitable night on the beers/curry) would have been greater.

In the end I got a great result as they informed me it was covered under my BMW Insured Warranty and just handed me my keys back

Positives
  • Wheel bearing replaced under warranty
  • Called at the time they stated to confirm car ready to pick up
  • No attempt to claim for any extras
  • No mention of 'borderline tyres' or 'borderline brakes'
  • Provided courtesy car at no cost
Negatives
  • It's 40 miles away
  • Yes, really, that's all the negatives

Might bell them in a couple of months for a price on Inspection 1.

Well it's where I'll be getting my next oil service done in 6,000 miles.

Here's an interesting issue...after this oil service, my car would normally have been due and Inspection 2 (at about 48,000 miles by my reckoning), however it had a new engine at 22,000 miles (before it's Inspection 1) so does the 'service clock' reset back to 0 when I had the new engine and thus expect an Inspection 1 at 48,000 miles?

I guess you would still have other insp 2 work done but not the engine? Can't recall whats the extras to be done over and above insp 1.
