So I was changing out my high beam bulbs for some LEDs this afternoon (thanks again Paulo) when I found something that may be of use. I had a quick Google but couldn't find this.
While doing the left hand side, every time I went to put the bloody awful inner cover back into place the hood would pop open. Turns out that, for the twin latch facelift, the bonnet release actuator[1] is accessible from under the wheel arch. With the cover off, there's a little nubbin of metal about where the catch piece sits in that's responsible.
Dunno if it's the same for the other side (I'd already done that one) but I can imagine it is[2].
[1] Or it might be the end of the cable or a right hand turn for the mechanism, it's hard to tell
[2] What it must be to have a more interesting imagination
