Pop-up nav screen broken

As the title suggests, the pop-up screen in my e85 z4 is broken. The clam shell has come apart and the whole unit doesn’t flip up when I start the car. I have read that there is a way of repairing the unit to make it functional, but I have neither the tools nor skills to attempt it. Is there anyone out there able to help, or to point me in the right direction? I’m in the Southwest. Many thanks.
 
I repaired few of these sat nav screen not the prettiest but does work.

its repairable depending how much damage on gears that flip the screen.

other option is get the android version on aliexpress
 
The whole unit is pretty easy to remove. Maybe take it out and send it away for a repair. This post by another member describes the process. I've done it myself a few times.

I had this problem soon after I bought my 3.0 convertible. The garage had it back and said they had lubricated the mechanism and it worked for all of a couple of days and started playing up again. The got a quote from BMW for £1700 to replace and did not want to pay that so offered to take the car back. By this time I wass a bit fed up and as someone who is used to getting their hands dirty decided to take a look myself.
