Pollen filter

Something i neglected.

Last changed about 6 years ago
I noticed the heater not blowing very hot and not much flow so changed filter.
Surprise, now runs lot warmer now all the dried leaves fallen out and clean filter.

Surprised there were leaves as i fitted a mesh to the intake to stop leaves getting in. BMW didn't fit one.
Perhaps not all cleared out last time filter changed.

Did you sanitise the system while you were at it?

I change mine regular, but it's always got dried leaves in it.

What i needed NBC gear and decontaminate the system?
Mind you who knows what has gathered in the filter.
Concentration of bugs and chemicals.

With the damp atmosphere within the ducts etc you can get Legionella forming, so a sanitisation of the whole system is always a good idea. If you start smelling a bit of a "musty" smell then it's time to clean the system, normally after winter when you're about to start using the Air-Con again

Have you not seen my video??

Has anyone ever caught anything from cars ac.

We had outside in the 80's at work a cooler. Basically it rained warm water into a holding tank, to cool the water.
It looked ripe for Legionaries breeding ground.

Can't say I've heard of anyone who has, but it does keep the ducts clean and they smell better for it :D

If you're not using the AC in winter, you should.
Personally I find the BMW system not that great for distribution control. If it gets a bit warm then it starts blowing cold for too long, not good in Winter. I found my 1992 Nissan 300ZX had a much better control system, I'd set it 18 in the Winter and it was perfect, maybe a little higher if it was a colder day, it stayed at a consistent temp, whereas the BMW system isn't anywhere near as accurate.
Unless there is something wrong with mine!!

Is that a function of having AC on or not though? If maintaining temp is the issue, that's separate to my point, which is that AC should be on. Reduces humidity, i.e. clear windows and is better for the AC system too :)

I switched ac on in a MR2 in winter.
Cleared window, until i switched it off.
Window fogged over in seconds.
Was dangerous couldn't see out.

Yeah with AC on, the only way to maintain temp properly. There is a huge difference between having fan set to temp, AC set to temp and Auto AC set to temp.
You are right, you should really use AC all the time, and on Auto setting as well as it "should" keep the windscreen clear (if the sensor is working!).

Yes if you have the Auto AC then that shouldn't happen.
