Polish question (UK)

For the past couple of years I have been using a polish called "Mer."

Seeing as I have changed my car I have decided it is time to try a new polish.

So, recommendations please. I'm looking for something that doesn't cost the earth and can be applied by a novice like myself with good results!

I have heard a lot about Autoglym. Is this good stuff? One thing that puts me off is that when I look at it in Halfrauds there are too many different types to choose from.

Cheers

I use the DoDo Purple Haze, very happy with it :D

You will find loads of info here http://www.detailingworld.com

mostly AutoGlym Super Resin Polish ( SRP ) and a Dodo wax will see you done....

It's a slippery slope though this car cleaning stuff

I've read quite a lot about SRP on detailingworld. Think I will go with it. Do I have to wax it afterwards or can I just use SRP?

Another vote for the meguires NXT tech wax here.

The local detailing boys set me up with the right list of polishes glazes and compounds, all Meguires

Never looked back - or is that always look back as the car looks so shiny?

Another Purple Haze lover!(for dark colours) After SRP type polish........

I also have Collinite 915 Marque D'Elegance for my silver car.

I find the Purple haze much better to apply and remove.

Cheers

Dont go on that web sit.......... Ive spent £200+ on cleaning products since going on there lol

Thanks for all the advice guys. I've just got back from Halfrauds as they have a 3for2 on cleaning products at the moment.

I went the AutoGlym route with Super Resin Polish 500ml, Extra Gloss Protection 325ml and an Autoglym perfect polishing cloth (box of 8 ) for £20, which I thought was quite reasonable.

I'm going to try it on the bonnet tonight (in well lit garage) and see how it goes. I'm tempted to buy their car shampoo as well as I have a bottle of cheapish TurtleWax stuff at the moment.

That will make a good durable base you can layer the EGP and it gets better each time then if you fancy spending a little more try topping with a wax and i recomend a Quick Detailer for every time you wash the car leaves that just waxed look.

Recomend this QD very good http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/Products,78,toView_337.html

This is my Z4s first detail http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2857&p=41253#p41253

Thanks Gaza,

Your detail looks very good. You mention using a clay bar before the SRP, is that something I should try (as a novice!)?

Also, how often should I re-apply and in what order? Do I need to re-apply the SRP regularly or just the EGP regularly? Of should I get a QD to apply regularly?

Thanks

Thanks for the comment

Si regarding the claying its very easy to do just make sure you use plenty of QD so the clay will not grab best go Detailing world as suggested above loads of info.

The clay i used was this http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/sonus-green-ultra-fine-clay-refill/prod_327.html and i used this for lube http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-sprays/meguiars-last-touch/prod_225.html

The megs LT is what use to use for my final wipe after cleaning the car leaves a nice gloss but not as good as the Serious Performance one i have recomended above so you could go for this kit for claying http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/meguiars-quik-clay-kit/prod_226.html this is available in Halfords and is supposed to be OK for a novice

Regarding the SRP use this after claying then follow with EGP and i always use 2 layers 24 hours apart followed by my wax but if you choose not to wax you can put on a few more coats of EGP if you like.

You only need to Clay and polish every 6 months and with the wax depends which one you use the Vic Concours i used i do every 2 months but if you use something like this http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/collinite-no-845-insulator-wax/prod_208.html which leaves a nice finish and is easy to use it lasts around 6 months and if you do use 845 pop it on the radiator before use gets it nice and soft like a liquid.

As for the QD use that after every wash takes no time at all and looks great.
