PLEASE READ FAULTY ALARM OR CREAKING/GROANING DASH

Hi Guys... I have an 07 Z4 Sport and thanks to the Help of everyone on here, I have cured the problems experienced of creaking & groaning dash as well as a Alarm which decided to go off all times of the day. I now hope to repay everyone's kind help by making a (hopefully) useful post.

Firstly the creaking and groaning, thanks to you guys, this is in most cases is the 'engine strut braces' under the bonnet. Simply get these tightened and problem sorted. However, this has led me to the second problem.

Last week, I had two flat batteries which reset all my computer. I didn't realise that the cause of the flat battery was my alarm sounding all day whilst I was at work. The cause of which ? The Bonnet Sensor (thanks you guys again).

When the Alarm keeps sounding randomly, this is usually the Bonnet Sensor - coincidentally next to where the strut braces meet. Although most say the sensor is 'dodgy', I found that as a result of tightening the braces, I knocked the sensor slightly out of alignment which caused it go go off.

A can of Contact Cleaner (99p) and a simple twist of the sensor to the upright position and its never gone off since. I don't know how much a sensor costs at Stealerships however please please try re-aligning the sensor before spending ££££'s especially if you have had at some point the engine strut braces tightened.

I hope this helps, the Forum is great and has helped me saved loads of cash. I hope I can do the same for someone else !

The switch is about £5 (when I got mine) and although repositining or cleaning it in many cases works, it's actually a faulty component and BMW just swap it out. They sell loads of them at dealers.

Glad you got fixed and sorted
