Please help me....

Few weeks ago I try the laser touchless carwash and somehow, few days ago I couldn't start my engine
The speakers went bad
And I drove my car to the dealership yesterday and they say it's because of the amount of water inside the trunk

What my question is, is it my fault because I used the laser carwash?
Since I didn't know that the Z4 can't be washed with this laser carwash and I believe it doesn't say anything in the z4 manual book

If it's my fault, I don't mind to pay the amount to replace them but if it isn't, I'd like to claim them using my valid warranty

Thank you very much.

The car should not leak. I had a Roadster and it did not leak in a touchless carwash or laser for that matter. My coupe leaks on both drivers and passanger side near the side mirrors.

Your car leaks are BMW's shoddy work and you should not have to pay for them.

That's BS! The trunk should NOT leak! Even with a high pressure spray, I'd guess you'd have to be blasting directly at the seals for the trunk to get water in. So that would mean they'd have to hold the hp nozzle and try to get it between the trunk lid and it's adjoining parts. They don't typically work like that. The water hitting the seals should just be run off water and should in no way enter the vehicle unless it's a faulty seal or the trunk was open.

If all these hp wash places could do that damage, they'd be out of business in a second!

So the question is...was the truck open during the wash? if you hit the truck unluck, as all of you know, the trunk looks locked but isn't latched. Maybe it was accidentally opened during the wash? Did you see it go in and out? But also, they usually open the trunk to do the hand dry here so you wouldn't even know if it was open before.

Personally, I'd investigate more...both with the dealer and laser wash. For a quick job once or twice a year before a date, I'll take my car to the brushless wash so I feel you pain!!!!

There is no way this should be your fault, unless (as stated above) the trunk was accidently left open.

+1 I think this is very likely the case, I've remeber reading in BMW literature for the Z4, to be sure you check your trunk is properly closed before and after driving.

Definitely NOT your fault. Don't let the dealer push you around. Supposedly, our Zed's are blasted with high pressure water jets for hours after their built to make sure they don't leak. If it is leaking, then there's something wrong with the car (i.e. should be covered under warranty)!

Actually, each new Z4 spends eight minutes in the "Hurricane Booth" where over 1300 gallons of water are sprayed from every angle. Should be able to handle the Laser wash!

I would never ever take my Z to a car wash. Many around here use re-cycled water and who knows what kind of detergent. Yuk!!!

But I can not understand how you could be at fault for a leak in the trunk. Maybe you used the word lazar and that scared them. If they will not fix the problem, get the name of the associate at the local dealership and the manager’s name and contact corporate management. I bet they will fix the problem for you. They called me about a problem I had with my dealer and it was fixed to my satisfaction. :D

I use a lazer wash when it is <32 deegrees here during the winter and I have never had a single leak. I don't think this is your problem either.

hmm... ok thank you for your inputs
i'll call my dealer one more time

so u guys are positive that this shouldnt be happening?
and yes, i didnt even touch the trunk switch
i rarely open my trunk

i'll call them rite now

Re the boot (trunk) being open slightly i poped my boot lid with the key by accident when washing the car and never noticed until i went to dry the car and was expecting loads of water in the boot but nothing was impressed that no water got in.

Hope you get it sorted and at no cost to you

I always pop the hood & trunk (and leave it in that position w/o opening it further) to cool the engine faster after a long drive and spray wash my car and the engine bay/boot always stay dry :o

lol? really 'no way the car should leak'?
finally....
the warranty covers it
they found the problem!
looks like the hole is not from the trunk part, but from underneath the car or somewhere around there
they cover the whole things that were damaged because of this

thanks to dreyer & reinbold bmw! :)
