this is going to sound very newbie here but never mind!

ive got a 2.5 2003 manual and before it i drove a toyota supra. ive always thought the z4 wasnt a particuarly fast car, mainly because ive always got the roof down and theres just no need to go quick. still though pulling away from junctions and overtaking etc always seemed sluggish compared to the old supra!

early today however that all changed, for the first time since i bought it i pressed the sport button ( didnt expect it to do much ) and switched the traction control off. my god what a difference it makes car felt much more responsive and seemed much quicker.

just wondering if im being a tool or if anyone else on here has found it to be the same?

its even better in a 3.0i. Yep, I have noticed a BIG difference!! :D :D
I don't bother turning off DTC, myself. :)

I bought a 3.0l last Friday and drOve it for two days before unfortunately having to leave for south Africa(work) but in the short time I had to play I couldn't believe the difference. I had read that it stiffened the steering and changed the throttle response, but to me it felt like it unleashed more power higher up. I really noticed it when I gave it the beans with it off and mine also seemed sluggish but only at around 4k +

Just a placebo effect I'm afraid. On a manual it just changes the amount of movemnet of the throttle between closed and WOT (and reduces steering assistance). No difference at all in engine output.

Sorry to disappoint

It's funny that in my experience the sport button doesn't do much at all. I can feel the change in the throttle/steering but thats about it. I have taken my car round the Nurburgring 3 years running and never used the sport button once!

gotta love those placebos :)
guess it might have just been the traction being off then as the cars tried to *save* my life whilst cornering more than once whilst driving spiritedly

Although i do like my Z4, I still miss my old Supra.

DSC into DTC mode sharpens things up, it's amazing how much it interferes without even saying it is. I almost always drive with it in DTC now.

Sport is a mixed bag. I like the weight of steering at speed, without it fast driving feels not so nice... but don't get why it's dead heavy at low speed (ie, parking)... throttle is nice sharper for fast road use, but for track use I can imagine it is bad because deep braking will leave the throttle TOO sensitive on heel and toe, also it might be too sharp for really smooth throttle work at the limit of adhesion on fast curves.

But no, no real difference in power, but response is loads better in sport :D

I plan (one day haha), to get the ECU data out and see if the sport mode stuff is stored in there. I'd love to change the sport mapping for the steering, and maybe even make the throttle a bit longer but keep the response (kinda a half way house between non-sport and sport on the throttle)

All fun :D
