Plastic dash trim scuffed

Hi everyone,

I was in a rush on my way to work the other day and as I threw my laptop bag on to the passenger seat, I ended up scuffing the silver plastic trim

Now I need to repair it (which is near impossible as it's plastic) or replace it. If I need to replace it, does anyone know the part number and a how-to on removing and replacing the panel?

As for laptop bags; mine goes in the boot so a) I don't damage the interior and b) someone can't put the window through at the lights and nick it!

Sorry! I've edited the image links. They should appear now. It doesn't look as bad in the photos, but it's very visible in reality.

Mm, its satin so going to be hard to fix. I thought this was alloy and not plastic, you don't see much of that trim type.

I'd say try to fix it with some very very fine wet and dry perhaps. Failing that its a replacement job and as for that and its fixings I'd suggest trying www.realoem.com as it will show part numbers and fixings in an exploded way. From memory there are screws that keep in the vents etc that must be removed and then you can unscrew and pop off the trim. Hope that helps a bit. Thankfully my dash trim is leather and withstands a bit more, but will also be hideously expensive to replace if I ever did whack it.

Not a bad idea if you can make a reasonable job of it... but you'd also need to wrap the door trim etc to match ideally.

True,wonder what the cost or replacement of the dash part v wrapping all the trim would be?

One word... BMW

(in other words, wrap will likely be 5% of the parts to replace cost!!)

I recently had my car detailed and they removed (without request) a number of scratch's and marks from the interior plastic - I had previously tried a number of products with no success

I have emailed them to see what product they used - Will feedback unless its a trade secret they are not willing to share!

thanks for your help everyone. Maniac, I've had a look at the real oem website and I've got the part number now. I'll ring bmw in the morning for a price for the part and I'll post it on here. Ranski, thanks for emailing them. That would be the ideal solution if they can tell you the product they used.

I was thinking about using t-cut but I thought it would be too abrasive and make it worse. I suppose I've got nothing to lose. It's a lot more visible than it looks in the photos. It was hard to take a clear enough picture.

You could always start with something a little finer - meguires paint prep perhaps.

I got a quote from BMW. For a replacement part in the same satin silver colour will cost £157 inc vat. I didn't ask about fitting costs as I'll do it myself if I buy a new part.

So now it looks like my options are to try blending it in with something like a fine t-cut and if that just makes it worse, I'll have to buy a new panel.

Ouch... I'd put off the purchase until you absolutely have to.. because you know you'll get it and either damage something else putting it on or scrape it again the week after you've done it...

If you do end up going the replacement part route, try emailing Bob Redsull at Arden BMW Maidstone.

Tell Bob I told you to contact him. He should hopefully be able to better the £157 inc vat price you got.

There's one being broken at Quarry Motors, that looks like it has the same trim. Might be worth giving them a call?
