Just wondering if anyone on here can point me in the direction of some free downloadable picture editing software, I've been thinking about buying some but wanted to have a look at a few free options to see how much I'd actually use it

irfanview
http://www.irfanview.com

also has plug-in modules for lossless jpg cropping/rotating

edit:
depends what you mean by "editing" maybe.
I rarely do anything other than crop and rotate

I use Gimp 2.6 instead of shelling out for paintshop as a lot of people rate it, it's free.......... but can be a shocker if you Google "gimp" or your mrs sees it in your favourites :D

I use gimp and photoshop (photoshop is better/easier to use, but gimp is free!) on mac.

On windows, I'd head the direction of paint.net first - http://www.getpaint.net/

I definitely second Paint.net for Windows.

Pixelmator for Mac, GIMP for *nix!

I've never used it, but one of my friends raves about the GIMP. Mind you, that might say more for the sort of company I keep rather than any image editing software....

Another option would be to try the Photoshop Elements trial off of the Adobe website. Would give you a month to see if you like it then you could consider buying the package for £60. They also have a CS5 trial as well I think, but that's crazy money to buy.

Thanks for the links, will give them all a try a see what happens
want to be able to chop item out of photo's and put them into different back grounds etc
