"Piano black" inserts - how to get them shiny again?

Hello guys,

I'm the proud owner of a Z4MQP with those nice "piano black interior inserts"

sadly they start to show all those minor scratches on the surface ...

Anybody any tips on how to get them shiny again and with which products?

Thanks a lot

If it's lacquered wood then a French polishing kit should work.

I've also found the piano black trim great for sticking my TomTom mount to so that it doesn't obstruct my view at all :)

Does that leave a mark after you've taken it off? Thought about that myself but was a bit frightened of damaging it.

French polishing is just like polishing your paintwork. It shouldn't leave any marks, but it depends on who's doing it.
If it's done poorly then you end up with scratches/shadows/swirls/holograms/etc.

However you probably wouldn't want to go through the whole French polishing steps as that requires stripping down to the wood, filling, dyeing, polishing, lacquering & polishing - and that's only worth it for valuable furniture with big gouges/stains.

You'll probably just need some of the polishes/waxes as these work in the same was as the mild cutting compounds used on paintwork.

Dont think there is any wood involved, guessing it Aluminium underneath like the Carbon Leather and Brushed Aluminium ones, coated with a paint or some fancy resin.

Surely for minor scratches treat it as you would the external paint. Swirl remover, Polish it, then wax and buff up.
Of course one persons small scratch is another's deep gouge so I guess it depends on how much damage

I would try a very mild cutting compound, maybe Super resin polish? I'm glad Ive got the carbon weave, it's possibly the most practical of all the interior trims.
