Not entirely sure this is in the right place but it's not a discount code and I'm not selling something so for now I'll put it here

For those thinking about starting with a bit of photo editing, Amazon are doing a special price on Photoshop Elements 11 until midnight. It's £32.99, 43% off.

I'm not connected with the offer, just passing it on as I know some people have talked about getting into this and it's a great beginners package. Yes, there are other packages available, Lightroom is superb blah blah blah but this is the one on offer.

Adobe has a generous student license program. 80% discount if you're prepared to go through the faff of providing proof from the school. Uni is easier, you just send a scan of their student ID from the uni.
 
You can get old versions of CS free from adobe themselves ... Whih is good if you're a beginner and just want to fiddle.

I can dig out the link if anyone is interested.

Im still on the Uni scheme never get asked for ID ;)

When I upgrade I dont get asked. Just take the money and continue, makes more sense for me than paying over £1500 to upgrade my master suit. Rather buy a new lens.

You will do next time. They've changed their process and they're checking credentials due to abuse.
 
Ive been left 4 years and had two upgrades so I doubt it, I got mine through my uni. Bought it as an extra licence through the university name so not directly affiliated with me. Which is why I did it, made more sense for me. Creative industry is tough any extra helps.

It's CS2, which they say isn't supported on new computers... its wrong. Running on Windows 8 no problems at all.
 
Ye true for PC but if your running a mac with Lion or Mountain Lion then it isnt supported, as it runs as a virtual machine in Rosetta which is a shame.

Plus its incredibly slow on a mac compared to a PC because of this.

Although it is a pain because even CS5.5 doesn't allow you to use the newest RAW codec. The way you use shadow/highlights is completely different and much more useful now, shame they only allow it in CS6.

As photoshop is pixel based, photography and artwork is all photoshops really good for in a professional environment. Although a lot of people use it with type etc you cant scale without degradation so other Adobe products like Illustrator and Indesign are vector based and are much better for these purposes. :thumbsup:
 
As a starting point for beginners to get a handle on PS though... having a free download can only be a good thing though ;)

You're illegally using an educational volume license then. Student Teacher edition now must be validated on each purchase. Be careful you don't get audited as a small business. They will come after you for backdated licence revenue.

Creative Cloud is priced such that a years subscription is around one individual package upgrade. Cost wise it makes a lot of sense as you can use all of their packages.
 
Im still affiliated with the university and go in as a working pro to teach PS/AI/ID as well as lecture about the industry. So I wont be, and as its under the Universities name its just adding one to their licence of over 600 machines. You would be surprised how many people do this and we were told by the University that this was the best way to get you on your feet.

Happens everywhere, there is a statistic that outside education and business that 70% of all photoshop installations are pirate as its so easy to do and software is so expensive.

My work machine has a separate business licence again paid for by the company I work for so im not illegally using anything.
 
CS6 is terrible. It's full of bugs and seems to be extremely memory hungry now. We upgraded last year and i'd gladly go back to CS4. Having to use it every day is very frustrating.
 
Ye my experience is similar. But it is much faster than CS4 as its 64bit and can access much more memory, some of my raws while editing hit 500mb-1gb and the mac version of CS4 was like snail pace in comparison.
