Phone holder

Hey all

I'm hoping someone can give me ideas on a decent phone holder.

I've tried the windscreen suction mount....falls off. Even with a longer arm resting on the dashboard it doesn't stay put long term
Tried a dashboard vent mounted one....vent lasted a few months and broke so had to replace the centre vent unit.
Tried a CD slot mounted one....so far it's ok, but it blocks the majority of the display

I don't like the idea of using adhesive on any of the car surfaces - I don't want any permanent markings. Screwing into any surfaces is non-starter.

I've searched and seen a few posts but they're all years old.

Can anyone point me to something decent and/or show me photos of decent phone holders in your cars?

Thanks

This is a good base to attach something to

try quadlock, amazing on the windscreen, different mount required but equally great on a motorcycle and the mountain bike.

First off I tried a cheap & nasty effort which slotted into one of the air vent slats but it wasn't much use as the Zed's firmish suspension set up soon resulted in the phone ending up in the passenger footwell.
I then tried a Scosche 4 in 1 Mount Phone Holder (link below), again from Halfords and it was great until the adhesive mount gave up on the brushed aluminium dash.Scosche phone holder.jpgScosche box.jpg
However, undeterred I bought some Ever Build Hard Plastic Adhesive to remount the phone holder and it's been rock solid for - I would guess
- two or three years by now.

i've got one of these from aliexpress. holds my s24 ultra without any problems in the right central vent nearest the steering wheel. The two small legs sit on the silver part of the dash and the hook goes into the air vent which i just close off when using the phone

I installed a ProClip base (on a LHD car), to the right side of the radio and vents. I adapted a Belkin MagSafe(TM) swivel mount to it. For me, it's very nice, holds my iPhone 12 Mini very securely, allows an easy grab off the mount, and charges the phone. The ProClip bits are pricey, but this one clips under the aluminum facia and is also secured with quality double sided adhesive. I searched hard for a minimalist mount, and this one filled the bill - it is more sophisiticated than it looks, angled toward the driver, and conforming to the dash curves. I've run the MagSafe wiring from the under-radio access panel, and I didn't need to slot the panel to make it fit. I don't know whether they make a mount for the RHD cars.

I'm attaching a photo.

Hi everyone, I've just joined today and this is my first post, so here goes :D

I had a similar issue in my E89 so went the DIY route after not finding anything suitable.

I've not got the onboard satnav etc, so I used the cubby hole as the location. This mount from eBay UK (£4.76) https://tinyurl.com/4w2z8zcf is big enough to grip a phone with reasonable strength, so I cut off the dash mounting loop to just leave the jaws and mounted it to a piece of nature's carbon fiber pre-cut to fit in the cubby. A bit of velcro holds the top jaw to the open lid to stop the phone and mount assembly from tipping out under acceleration, which is completely invisible when the mount's in place.

I've not had the phone come out of the jaws yet, and there's a huge amount of access to use a short right-angle charging cable from the 12v socket below. Whilst too big to close the cubby lid with it in place, it easily stows in the glove-box.

Pics (hopefully) attached.

Seconded for quadlock on the windscreen, superb, not cheap but worth it.

+1 for QuadLock

Great for motorbikes and equally so for the car (even if it bounces around a bit when mounted to the side vents!)

I was going to go the quad route but not sure how good the phone case is at actually protecting the phone. Sure the holder does good job of holding in place - no denying that. But I’m taking about 90% of the time my phone isn’t in the car or on a phone mount….

I the end I went with a Mous case and Mous magnetic mount. I think the Mous case does a good job of protecting the phone more (from the research I did)

I've used a yosh magnetic mount for a few years and it's been great. I use an adhesive one in my E85 stuck to the aluminium to the left of the steering wheel and liked it so much I bought a vent one for my other car. They come with the metal discs that you can stick to the phone or phone case.

There was some chat on here a few years ago about a 3d printed one that would push fit in around the instrument cluster so that could be worth checking out.

I find my left pants pocket to be a great phone holder. It never gets lost and I keep my eyes on the road, not the phone.
