Phone cradle to storage

I was wondering if it was possible to pop out the phone cradle and replace it with a cradle/storage. In other words not a phone cradle but a tray that would replace the cradle with something more useful.
I don’t want to rip the centre console apart to do this and hoped there was a simple drop in module.

Originally it was a storage cubby, unless you ordered the phone prep option which I think a lot of people did.

I think the 'standard' part is below (84216924064), but whether it's still available or not I couldn't say.

My car has the phone cradle but I'm not sure how useful a storage tray would be - surely when you closed the compartment door everything would just drop out of it?

I've never really thought about it as Coupes have a sunglasses "ejector" above the rear view mirror. :lol:

You know when you buy a car and it comes with ‘bits’ in the boot that you empty out and put to one side.
Well it looks like the previous owner had the same idea as me. Amongst other things like winter covers was an ashtray insert that I didn’t figure out at the time was actually the phone cradle insert recommended above.
And to answer my own question, yes it just slots right where the phone ejector box goes. Direct replacement.
A free ‘upgrade’.

Now the tray is in I realise that you are absolutely correct. It’s futile, but looks neater than an old phone box.
