Petrol flap under petrol cap won't budge for pump nozzle

Hi all,

I've had my Z4 Roadster 2.5 for two weeks...so as you can imagine, I've filled it up with petrol a few times already lol!!
I stuck £10 of Unleaded in last night as the only garage open didn't do Super Unleaded and I needed to get home...Today I went to fill him up fully and the metal fuel flap which is under the petrol cap itself would not allow me to put the nozzle in...if I poke it with my finger it opens, but it won't accept the nozzle :0/

I ended up wedging it open with a stick so that I could fill the tank up....it's the weirdest thing..
For the first time ever I got a Woman Driver complex, I was almost happy when the other half couldn't do it either?....

The only thing I can think of, which has just dawned on me and it sounds mad, is that the nozzle was the wrong size/out of shape...how else would the flap open if you poked it :0/. Has anybody else ever come across this issue..I haven't in 22 years of driving!?

:tumbleweed:

It's a common problem- the pump nozzle gets bashed and doesn't open the flap properly

I found if you rotate the nozzle round you can generally find where it will open - either this or find another pump

Aah it had just dawned on me, that it might have been the actual nozzle..so I edited the post lol!

Seriously though, I've never come across it before with other cars..the hole on the Z4 petrol tank must be tight :o

At least there's nothing wrong with the car...phew panic over!

Thanks

I've found that with some pumps in France the nozzle won't fit but only with my Zed, never any other car.

It honestly never dawned on me until after I posted....feel like a right plank now lol!
The Z4 truly is a unique beast :)

My advice is to always carry a stick lmao...you won't have to change pumps

You shouldn't - I'd assumed that both nozzle and hole were of a standard size until I found out that no one had told that to the French :P

Hi

don't think your avatar is working ??

I've lost the will to live with it... I need to take a picture from further away..so when I resize it doesn't distort it.
Gonna try again tomorrow :)

Ha, after my experience today I think somebody forgot to tell Sainsburys as well

I've had that happen to me on both my Zeds. Rotating the nozzle eventually allowed me to get past it but when it happens it becomes awkward. You're not alone!

:driving:
