Petrol filler locking pin louder than usual-

Lifer
Hi all,as above the last couple of times i have locked the zed by the locking button on the key,the petrol filler door locking pin sounds a lot louder as it locks than normal,i remember reading on here a while ago about a member needing a new pin or something?-thanks

Funny you say that cos mine has been doing it past 2 weeks now!!! Can also see the fuel cap move as it locks! Just waiting for the motor to go or something lol

Mine has been quite noisy for the past 6 months. It's intermittent and seems to be absolutely fine. I might have a look with some lubricant this weekend.

So its not just me then :) -i tried leaving the petrol filler door open as i locked the car -saw the locking pin come out and sprayed a little wd on it -still the same tho

Rather than WD on the pin, squirt some little light oil down the hole when the pin's recessed, and unlock/lock a few times, see if that helps? Also, check your locking pin recess hole in the filler cap, make sure nothing's lodged in there?

Aaarh not WD40. it has thousands of uses but as Markeg says use light oil. WD40 dries over time to a thick solid substance and tend to clog things up.

 -i will dry it off and use 3 in 1 oil :)

BTW Andy, if the loud noise is the 'thunk' and not the motor, then it may be that your filler cap door has moved slightly rather than the pin moving too far and hitting the end of the recess. Try to see if the noise is coming from the recess end rather than the motor end, and check the gap around the filler door when its closed, should be constant all the way round.
