Perspex or mesh deflector?

Looking for a deflector for my 2005 E85. Plenty of after-market stuff available on E-bay - of the Velcro fixing type - but I wondered whether you would go for the Perspex (doesn't it rattle where it touches the trim? That would drive me nuts!) or mesh type (reduced rear visibility - slightly more claustrophobic?).

I opted for Mesh (the Gimp type) purely based on no permanent fixings.
The really isn't any issue with visibility, not that i've ever noticed and not claustrophobic? Hardly claustrophobic with the roof down, try having a Coupe.

This is a matter purely down to your own preferences.

Hi ESP - I saw a comment on the forum about feeling slightly claustrophobic with mesh when the roof is up. Can't see it being too much of a problem!

Bought one of the perspex ones from the usual seller on eBay. Rattled against my roll hoops over 50mph, and it also funnels the air down behind the seats, underneath and in to the footwells. Drove for about 6 miles took it off and then asked for a refund, which he eventually agreed to.

Fitted the mesh one instead and it works considerably better, guess it allows some of the air through it and that it doesn't channel the air downwards. Never gonna be a perfect solution to the air ingress, but hey, it's a roadster after all!

Hmmm ok, i can slightly see that. Even with NO wind-deflector driving a E85 with the roof up is possibly a little claustrophobic compared to other regular cars, mainly because theres little glass, its darker inside than other cars, and the rear screen is just behind your head.
But i wouldn't say adding the mesh deflector adds to this.

You'll find having one is a No-brainer once you have done just a few miles.

Go mesh and if funds allow, go OEM. It's mesh for a good reason. No more claustrophobic than without, but it does make a slight difference to rear visibility in the dark with the roof up. But that is such a rare situation, for me personally, it's not in the equation.

ditto

Another vote for mesh from me. Mine is permanently on, roof up and down and visibility is perhaps slightly compromised, but not to a great extent.

As with anything, after a couple of days, it becomes the norm and you don't even notice it.

Go gimp. You'll never look back :P

I fitted a non oem mesh windbreak and it looks the part, rear visibility is fine and makes the cabin a better place with the hood down.
It fastens to the hoop outer upright using a 2" velcro strap and is rock solid - £150 from eBay.......

Go oem mesh , its a no brainer as you can pick good condition ones up for cheaper than aftermarket ones.

I'm currently making my own illuminated perspex deflector and will be drawing up and printing some 3D fixings too ... I need to create the WIP thread with some pics. I don't like the velcro fit perspex on ebay though - I'm planning on making better fixing to avoid rattle etc

What he said. Don't be a chimp, go gimp! :P

OEM mesh deffo. I managed to get one in perfect condition on eBay for about £70 a couple of months ago. My hoops already had the bits fitted so the deflector just clipped straight in.
