Personalised Number Plate

Hi,

A post on here (possibly the last topic posted in) was talking about private number plates. It reminded me, i have thought for a while about getting something simple and have searched around for possible ideas for a while. I just wondered if anyone had any ideas that i hadn't thought about (or maybe different number plate formats which could 'say' the same thing as something already taken). It would go on my Ford Fiesta for now but in a few years on my dream Z4. Here are a few details for inspiration:

Name: Barnaby (Barny) J Green
DOB: 10/06/93

Any ideas would be appreciated

Barny

Barny,

The less characters or the 'simpler' it is then usually the more it costs.

Initials can sometimes work out ok but it depends if you're bothered about the prefix. For example, would V93 BJG be ok or are you looking for something more special than that?
Green or anything relating to that would be costly.

There's no B93 BJG for sale currently, however B2 BJG is but costs £1425.00 + all the bits.
There are however lots of possibilities with BJG online.

Assume you've trawlled regtransfers.co.uk and the DVLA for suggestions?

Wyldie, yes i've trawled both for suggestions and there are some interesting ones. I think it's likely i'll be going for a simple initial based one as you say with the best prefix i can find. Some very interesting different format ones such as BA12 NYG but obviously would only work on a newer 2012 or later car.

edit: Although 911 BG could be a worthwhile investment! Albeit an expensive one :L

911 BG is a nice number.

So it therefore depends if there's a prefix that's personal to you....and available.

I'm lucky in that my surname is quite unusual and my plate doesn't mean much to anyone else. Not many people with initials YLD.

Very true, i guess the only thing that's personal to me at the moment is 93 but no clue at to letters preceding that. BAR 11Y seems to be available on enquiry some places but i would imagine that would go into the 10's of thousands. Im struggling to find any 93's as they dont seem to come up on searches. After 20 or so they just jump in 5 or 10.

Personally I think something initial based is the way to go, often a lot cheaper than plates that spell something.
I don't mean to go overly personal here, but I remember one of your first posts on the forum was about your reasons for wanting a Z4 and it being your dads dream car. Maybe a plate in some way relating to him might be an option for you?

Barrie, that's a great idea! I remember him saying P4 ULS would be the dream (Paul's) and i guess that still could be relevant. Although it would be too overboard price wise and is already owned by someone.

Either dates such as a date relating to him (birthday, death..) could work. And would likely be fairly cheap with just a meaning to myself.

my mrs bought me one for my birthday about ten years ago my initials are p s and my business is called Billingham body repairs she bought me p5 bbr iv had it on all my work vans since goes well with the van being stickered up was only £250 off the dvla registration's website her name is Fiona second initial is r(we aren't actually married  ) so I bought her F10 NYR she has that on her z3

Seem to be some version of barny like b7 rny b44 rny m84 rny but they are all into the thousands. I did quite like ba12nyg but as I said I don't own a car new enough.

Paul, some great plates there! It's unfoetunate I don't have more significant letters such as like you with your business!

Irish plates with Z4 in might work.

BAZ 4... :

You could go with a prefix style plate, Pxx BJG.
Has your initials and if there's one that has any numbers relevant to your dad it'd be enough to have some meaning, and as you say its unlikely to be a combination with meaning to anyone else so would be pretty cheap as a bonus :)

I think that's what i'd end up doing. It's a shame places like the DVLA only keep consecutive numbers for the lower numbers and not into the high double digits. His age, DoD, DoB would all be easy to fit if they had them. I guess the point here is that reg's which don't seem anything special are probably just on bog standard normal cars straight when they were bought new all those years ago when the P reg's were out. As you say though, £250 all in for one of those and anyone who knew me would know it was my initials.

Had a nice idea of P411 BJG but again probably on some '96 Ford Mondeo or such!

Also had a look at irish plates but the randomness in the numbers available probably won't work

theres 8 prefix plates available on dvla website ending in dad all just under £500.and pages ending in bjg for £250

Paul, oh yeah forgot about that idea of Dad as the ending, might do that as a specific z4 plate come the day. Love that idea Jasey! Maybe I should change mine to EO09?

£400 from dvla - but that was a while ago :)

Just take your time and search the dvla site for a couple of hours you will eventually find something just right

I feel like i've spent far too long searching the DVLA site when i've got uni work to do! Lovely E89 you've got there!

Whatever you get, just hope you don't have some Romanian chap driving round the country in his van with the same plate (legitimate plate) which results in you receiving all the fines :headbang:
