Bought a car with a personal reg that remained on the car.

Can i transfer it to my name and if so how can i go about it?

Thank you.

The plate is assigned to the car - so its yours now (assuming the V5C doc has your name and the private plate)
When you come to sell the car if you want to keep the plate then you will need to complete the paperwork then (retention or transfer to new vehicle)

Yes, or you can put it on retention at a cost of £80 which will secure it to you for 10 years

I've got a personal plate on retention (everything now French reg!) ..... anyone any idea of the best place to advertise? I've put it on Pistonheads and even I can't find it on there! ... :|

Number5 has set up this 'Private plates' thread, why not throw it up there too

Thanks Marlon ... I looked it up and find I posted it there in February! Quite forgotten! I suppose it's a bit restricted on our Z4 website for anyone looking. There must be a national website or something - I'll see what Google comes up with ...

Just remember the logbook is not proof of ownership and by definition therefore neither is the plate. That said unless you purchased the car with some condition that it was not in the sale and you have a new V5C with your details and the plate shown on it, crack on and pull the reg off the car as stated above.

You can put it on any car as you choose free of charge once the retention is paid
