Performance air filter

Ebay?

FWIW the upgraded panel filters really don't do much aside from give you a little more induction noise.

I've gone through a pipercross foam one as well as a K&N (both drop in panels). I've just fitted a paper filter back to the car and have seen no difference.

If you're looking for an induction kit, the Gruppe M's are quite popular and in theory will work well thanks to the heat shield.

sorry to jump in a hi jack the thread, but ive got a 2.0 so is it even worth me upgrading at all, should i just stick with stock, upgraded filter, upgraded box and filter etc?

thanks

I'd just change the filter more often!

If you want some engine bay bling then that's a different story!

The only 'performance' you'll get from a cone style filter is a loss!

A panel filter may net you <1hp, but will likely clog your MAF with oil, as they use oil to aid filtration. You'd get more power gain just changing your oil more often than 15k. Take your £30 and buy 5 paper filters and keep them fresh :)

so basically, leave the standard filter box, ignore the fancy expensive brand name filters and just change a cheap/normal filter more often?

any links to any particular filters?

Get mine from ECP/Carparts4less and have never had any issues with MANN (the OE supplier) - cost about £6 each.

perfect! just had a quick look on eBay and saw there cheap as chips and will stick with the MANN brand if its OEM and does the job good enough

guessing engine size doesn't effect which to get? (all the same dimensions?)

I used aftermarket filters on old carburetor set-ups because you could easily re-jet and gain a couple of bhp with better intake noise. On modern mapped systems there really aren't any gains to be made unless you go for a full cold-air intake and re-map to utilise the upgrade. One proper test outed K&N's which quickly deteriorated and was worse than stock and tests have shown that stock systems have plenty of excess capacity designed in to allow for clogging between services so air flow is not a power restriction issue with regular changes anyway.

Conclusion from the test "the K&N “plugged up” nearly 3 times faster, passed 18 times more dirt and captured 37% less dirt"

Just bought a Bosch filter from euro parts for £8.09 inclusive of postage and it arrived in 2 days! Well happy. Like others say, cheap enough to change every couple of months. Glad I didn't bother with the K&N version for £40 after reading other posts.
