pedestrian protection light on

The red pedestrian protection light keeps coming on, any ideas how to reset it, the car has not been in any collision!

Car still under warranty? If so take it to the dealers as there may be an issue with it and a faulty sensor. Best to get it sorted than keep resetting it.

Tried opening and closing bonnet.
First time I knew about this is when I removed the bonnet handle.
I had accidently opened the bonnet.
Bonnet was open, closed and warning went.

I've never seen it?
What an I missing ?
+1 never heard of this before :|

We've had questions re it in the past but they have been in the 'Problem' section funnily enough. People have experienced intermittent issues with it. http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=66715

The handbooks, brouchers etc make no reference to this, but to cut a long story short it's a system designed when you hit a pedestrian that walks out into the road the bonnet will lift and cause less damage to them but cost you a small fortune in a repair. Nissan GTRs have a similar system, been lots of issues with it and cost 11k to sort :o I hear that some F10 drivers have also been having this failure warning too.

It's all part of the EU pedestrian safety features like how your windscreen wipers are slightly hidden under the bonnet so that if you hit someone they don't shatter their shoulder hitting it off the end part attached to the car.

Thanks Angie, cars are getting ridiculously complicated & expensive to repair these days

Indeed they are  and as always the more the car was worth on paper new, the more it costs

I knew what the pedestrian pampering thing did but didn't know when the system was fitted to the zed.
It must be a recent addition ????

My 2009 23i has it.
First I knew I removed the bonnet release handle to remove the speaker cover trim.
Just before I put the handle back a warning came up on iDrive about pedestrian protection.
Then I noticed the bonnet was open, closing it cancelled the warning. Not seen since.

Mine is a 2010 so I suppose it should have it on?

What's the symbol look like please.

It's about time pedestrians were educated about road safety I think - they wouldn't walk up a railway line would they.
Next thing railway loco s with have sponge buffers!

It's seems it been around a little while. Supposedly my E88 had it too. I have tried to find the symbol but can't locate anything anywhere.

As for education.......it's called the Green Cross Code. However doesn't stop people on phones, listening to music, tourists and those who just can't be bothered to walk a few feet to a proper designated crossing from stepping out in front of moving vehicles

So how is it supposed to work?
Do you hit a pedestrian, they go onto the bonnet, the bonnet releases and throws them over your car, you continue driving now the road is clear. :D

That's it, they walk into to road and get squished and it the driver to blame!
