Panicking I can’t fix my current one. I know they’re rare as rocking horse **** and I’m not willing to spend £1200 for a light when the cars probably work about 5 🤣🤣🤣

Even if the unit is a bit broken maybe I can swap out some parts if it works.

What's wrong with your current one? You can swap out the entire projector easily enough...
It's either a faulty wire or maybe a duff projector (Do these tend to go?)

I changed bulb, igniter, unit under the light in that order thinking it was one of those, still no luck, then I wiggled the wire internally and it came on.

Previously you could tap the light unit and it would come back on, then you could wiggle the wire and it would come on, but now it's totally dead. For a complete electrical amateur how hard would swapping out the projector be?

I'm booked in with a mobile auto electrician in October but if I can do it myself would rather just get it sorted asap.

Sounds like your loom is buggered - inside the headlight. You can double check it's the headlight and not the car loom by swapping headlights over (pins are the same) to troubleshoot the problem.

I've seen similar on headlights I've cut apart. The insulation on the wires degrades over time. I'm sure there will be factors which speed up this process. Thankfully it's fairly uncommon. But have seen it a few times. Similar to the below FYI.

Wow that does look bad, don’t think mines that bad , managed to get some pics but hard to make sense of them 🤣🤣

Noticed that that black chunky wire had started wearing through, nothing exposed luckily so have recovered it in electrical tape.

Need to check the other side now.

Joys of old cars and family life now is hard getting a couple of hours to do silly jobs like this
