Looking again at your pics it looks to me like whatever that black box is they may have used the airbag wire as the power source?

Yeah I was wondering what it might be that needs power. I might have a go at opening it.
Haven't looked for the lead at the other end, that's a good shout.

Took up the gear gaitor and no other end of the cable, so that wasn't fitted, which makes sense with it being a 2007 model.
So I have the switch, I can source a light, it's just back to the drawing board on the wiring. BMW no longer offers it and as a result all independent suppliers are also out of stock.
Can anyone here make up the cable? I have the socket which plugs into the switch end, just don't have the length of wire and socket which plugs into the light end.
