Part-ex an 07 Z4C for an 09 Z4 3.0

After 5 years of wonderful coupe ownership I'm thinking of swopping for a 3-4 year old 3.0.

Two questions. Am I getting good value for my extra £10k and will ownership of a 3.0 lead me to regret that I didn't go for the 3.5? Any thoughts or advice? Anybody else done this? BTW, I owned a Z3 2.8 for 7 years before the Z4C...should I be getting a prize from BMW?
 
Yes I did this (2005 e85 to 2009 e89 35i) and haven't looked back.. well, apart from the extra money!

The 23i is ok and keeps up with general traffic. The 30i is just a touch slower than the e85/e86 3.0 as its a bit heavier. The 35i flies with the extra torque of the turbos, and 35iS goes further still. All 'IMHO' and all that.
 
Thanks for the encouragement. What real world, seat of the pants, differences did you notice especially with regards handling, performance and economy?
 
Oddly, the economy is about the same, I used to average 22-25 on the e85 and get roughly the same now on the 35i. The e89 is more comfortable, but not in a luxury liner kind of way, just a bit more suspension travel. Its still quite crashy over manholes/shallow potholes just as the e85 was but overall its more comfy. The metal roof for me is a bonus as its quite secure. There's more room in the cabin, and, of course the styling is more modern. I particularly hated the e85 low kidney grills and they sorted that on the e89. I miss the throw it around element of the e85, I don't have that with the e89 but then I think that's me being careful moving from a car that cost me 15K to one that cost me over 40K!

There's the same frustrating lag between throttle and take up in the engine in the e89 as in the e85, I always disliked that, and still do. A side effect of drive by wire I guess.

I had just as many quality issues with the e85 as the e89. I'm glad I moved to the e89 though, its a lovely car and way quicker than my e85.
 
I'll most likely be in a similar situation at some stage, I anticipate changing to an E89 in the next couple of years, however...

That there is why I'll probably be looking at one of the smaller engines :thumbsup:
 
I'm averaging 26mpg in the ///M so you must be driving in town a lot, or having much more 'fun' than me :P
