Parrot CK3100

Anybody got the above installed on their Z4?

Picked one up off eBay (previously in a BMW) and am now wondering if it would have been easier to stump up the extra cash and buy brand new with the comfort that the kit was complete.

I'm struggling to see how it all connects up! I removed the z4 harness from the rear of the stereo and pushed in the parrot harness and connected the z4 harness to the parrot.

I can't see how I get power to the unit - doesn't help not being electrically minded! Assume I will need to get some kind of ignition feed?

Any tips or links to any guides for the z4 and parrot installation?

I have a CK3100 that I fitted on my Ford Transit Connect ehich I bought off ebay last year, its very simple just plug and play, the hardest part is finding a decent spot to fit the screen too. They are very good and want one for my cars but just not got round to it seems as I drive the van the most, it serves me well I cant imagine living without it now!

Hi Greg

I had hoped it was plug and play - think the wiring is all labelled if you buy brand new which might help further (hence the regret for 2nd hand!).

Parrot website says:

'Many new vehicles comes with CAN BUS (Data) communication at the rear of the radio and as a result the Parrot hands free kits ignition wire (Orange) CANNOT be connected to the rear of the radio.
This must be taken from a suitable 12 volt ignition supply elsewhere on the vehicle such as the fusebox or cigar lighter.
We recommend you seek professional assistance in this regard.'

I thought that the Z4 had canbus so assume I need to sort this connection to the 12volt.

Having zero electrics experience I think I might have to get a professional in - will have another play tomorrow tho first.

Cheers

J4YMO, I presume you have bought the correct SOT lead that plugs in between the Parrot and the Head Unit, this is all you need and you don't need to find a 12v ignition supply.

If the SOTS lead you have has an un terminated red wire then yes you will need to find a 12V switched supply. Fuse box would be best bet.

srhutch - thanks for that - I had hoped it was plug and play. The SOT lead I have is taken from another BMW but I suppose that doesnt necessarily mean its the correct one for my car.

The SOT has an unterminated blue wire - unsure what this is for? It would seem that there is a seperate wire bundle comprising of blue and black wires wrapped around the sot Lead - on these there is a sticker that says power connection for mobile device - assume this is irrelevant for power to the parrot? The terminal to the end of this smaller bundle wouldnt appear to connect to anything.

Maybe I am best buying a new SOT that I know is for a Z4?

Cheers for your help

From the pics, it looks as if it's the wrong SOT lead as you cannot connect all the parrot plugs.

you need one that looks like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CT10BM02-Parrot-SOT-Lead-BMW-X3-X5-Z4-Z8-/160491675250?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET&hash=item255e0c9e72#ht_1222wt_905

should be able to get one around £15

Thanks for your input.

I will swap this lead and see where it gets me.

Can you buy these off the shelf somewhere like Halfords? Be good to get one while the vents are already out (not that I'm impatient!!)

Will do some research

Cheers

Halfords were a waste of time!

Will get the one linked and see if I can progress from there!

Managed to get the lead a bit cheaper and had another go this evening.

Success - I now have power to the unit and the radio mutes etc.

New problem - it's stupidly loud through the speakers!!

I have turned all the settings to the lowest volume but this is no help.

I believe this could be because of the amp?

Any ideas where I go from here?

Cheers

Ordered a new lead - all now connected and working.

New problem now is that it's stupidly loud!!

All volume settings are set to the lowest.

Assume this is because I have the amplified stereo system on my z4?

Can anyone tell me where I go from here?

Don't think I can leave it like this so might be back on eBay!

Cheers

Any chance you got the 'loud' problem sorted? Just been offered a CK3100 but have the factory stereo with a built in amp and thought I might have the same problem...?
