Parking on a drive

Would you park a £35k car on your drive, something that draws attention, or would you only park out of sight in a garage ?

I don't have a garage.

Reasonable area, not pass through road, and probably fit a bollard.

If you don’t have a garage then you don’t have an option! Unless you can rent one locally?

I do have an option, and that is to not buy the car and stick with my sleeper. Doesn't seem much of a market place for garage rentals. Just wondered if it seems a high risk option in people's experience.

35k is a decent chunk of change but not unusual. I live in a terraced road in Romford and can see at least 7 cars on drives and parked in the road worth more than 35k. I wouldn’t worry.

I park my pork on the drive outside my house. I fitted a floodlight security cam which gives me a little peace of mind

Jeez man! Surely 'parking the pork' is something to be done slightly less publicly?

Depends on the area.

£35k car on the drive around some places will simply be the average lease/PCP BMW/Audi/Merc.

£35k car on the drive in Kensington is probably the gardener's car - the Bentley/Porsche/Range Rover is usually worth a lot more, and the exotic stuff is in underground car parks with £20k/year parking bills.

I think it's more about whether it looks out of place. So a couple of years old premium barge worth £35k (7-series, XJ, A8, etc.) parked on a drive/road won't stand out as much as a brightly-coloured Cayman S, 911, M4.

I'll park it anywhere I'm allowed to be honest!

theres a guy in our village owns a sports car dealership, he has an r8, bentley continental gt, golf r32 and some other big ass bentley SUV I cant remember what thats called parked on his, i think the cars are worth more than his house, he doesn't seem to worry  he does have some post type security that lifts up out of the ground, 4 of them across his drive

Wouldn't worry too much just ensure if the car has comfort access to keep the keys and spares in a bag or whatever that will block the keys signal and have Gap insurance, if the car is nicked and not recovered then hopefully can replace it for new, happy days.

Tim.

I don't think I would worry too much about it. Plenty of such cars parked on drives around here. Lovely R8 daily driver around the corner always on the drive.

A 35k car these days can be a run of the mill volkswagen, so I'd park it in my driveway. If someone wants what you have, they'll take it, regardless of where its parked.

If the car has key-less entry and start you might want to get a signal blocking pouch or box for the keys when they are in the house.

That's what I have for the keys, problem is these days if they want your car that bad the scroates are more than happy the smash their way into the house for the keys whether you're at home or not. Sometimes it's less grief to leave the keys by the door if they want them.

Then my advice is a massive dog! :D We had a black lab when I was a kid that had a perfect temperament but she'd have been a force to be reckoned with if someone broke in.

And then after the event the dog will be put down and you will prosecuted, the law is all wrong I'm afraid. Look at the lads who attempted to steal a quad bike and dragged that poor PC behind their car for god knows how far and all they got manslaughter.

Theres no deterrent.

Tim.

I can’t see a dog being put down for attacking burglars. That only gets applied when it’s an unprovoked attack and often only if it’s a repeat offence.

As for being prosecuted for your dogs actions towards a burglar whilst you’re asleep, I very much doubt that would happen. However, if you stick a knife in their back whilst they’re running away, then sure, you’ll probably be in a bit of trouble.

I wouldn't worry too much unless it's the sort of car that is targeted by thieves like a nearly-new Golf R, S3, etc. or is something that stands out as being something special in the area where you live.

At least it's off the road!
