Parkers Guide vs What Car Used Price Guide

Hi,

Was looking at the part-ex prices for our other car at the weekend and was shocked at just how different the price from these two guides came out:

Parkers Guide: Part Ex: 1570 + 240 for mileage adjustment (20k * £12) = £1810
What car: Part Ex: 2250 + 300 for mileage adjustment (20k * £15) = £2550

Car is a Citroen Saxo VTR on a 03 plate with 40k miles...

how can they be so different :o

Dealer gave us £1800 so Parkers turned out more accurate.

Just wondering... any thoughts?

Glad parkers is more accurate because they are valuing my car an a grand more than what car for a trade in.

I always go by autotrader now as they show the real world value and aim for that.

What you getting? did you test drive a swift sport?

Never thought of looking on Autotrader

We had previously looked at the Swift Sport at a motorshow and felt the boot was too small and that you are sat too close together in the car...

Order placed for a Mazda 2 1.5 3 Door Sport...

We looked at the Mazda 2 but hey need to do a sportier version with around 130bhp. Its basically a fiesta underneath isnt it?

A drive in the Swift Sport would of made you forget about boot space.

We test drove 2 of the mazda's - the TS2 and the sport. The TS2 has a 1.3 litre 86bhp engine and it was struggling too much, the 1.5 103bhp on the other hand was much much better and very similar to our existing Saxo.

boot space for us was important :D

The trade uses Glass's guide. Every other valuing option is pointless as nobody uses them. You need to go to glass.co.uk and pay a small fee for a true valuation, otherwise if you know anyone in the trade, ask for a peek at their monthly price guide book. Without it, you're not going in to a trade in properly armed to negotiate.

Good point, and for reference the Autotrader valuation actually goes through Glasses

No point me going through that now though

Happy with the price we got given what we paid for it just 3.5 years ago :D

I use vauxhalls site also, it uses glasss's and is free....

http://www.networkq.co.uk/buying/value-your-car/

From Vauxhall then:

Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition: £2090
Average condition: £1895
Below average condition: £1680

still happy as there is some marks here and there :D

I tend to use the following:

AA - Used car valuation
Whatcar - Free valuation
Parkers - Used car valuation
Vauxhall / Glass - (although this is only trade prices)
Autotrader - average prices based on spec
eBay prices (few on there)

Looking at the averages price on autotrader for non-M coupe's I got:

Year Least Most Avg
NEW £31,000 £37,000 £34,000
2009 £25,990 £29,995 £27,988
2008 £24,750 £26,495 £26,246
2007 £17,595 £22,950 £20,420
2006 £15,950 £20,750 £18,688

I made up the new price as I didnt know them..

The average is adding each vehicle individually and dividing by the total not just most-least/2 + least.

Just sold my car got £10500 private all the stealers where offering £8750 wich is smack on the px glasses guide without leather but the full leather trim shoud have been added, when you buy second hand do they sell the car at the same price as a cloth trim ? I dont think so! any way armed with cash I was in the driving seat it only cost me £2400 to change my car insted of the 6k it woud have cost to px my car my addvise is put your car on e bay one month add it only takes one person to buy at a cost of £12 and then you have the cash to get a proper deal :D

Parkers were the same as glasses for me, give or take £100 here and there, on all cars I valued with them at around £10,000-£12,000 when buying my Z4.

The worst bit about Glasses is they gave the exact same valuation for the same car, but with options like top-hifi/nav, xenon, m-sports, and heated seats added. Hmmmm.

Maybe if you are a trader and care about a few % here and there and just want a quick value without much research, great, use Glasses, but ultimately their values are still very questionable imho!

as I said the dealers like to give you the basic price without the extras ,but when you are buying if vthe car is loaded the price goes up thats why I will allways sell private A bit more hastle but you will allways be much better off on my last deal £4600 better off and the dealer I bought my new car off has still made money :driving:
